Nobody knows if this is full lap or BTG time (add ~20 secs what do you get )

Until then the 7:52 time doesn't feel useable, no facts simply.

The M5 E60 is:

1) Not as safe as other cars in the same class (A6, E-class etc.)
http://www.euroncap.com/content/medi...hp?view=latest

Executive Cars (new figures from today)
Audi A6 5 stars
BMW 5-Series 4 stars (reteasted since it only got 3 stars in the first trial)

2) Fast, but not as fast as expected. Except in a straight line. M Gmbh is doing a Mercedes and the verdict is they promised too much.

3) Still ugly.

But hey, BMW is making a lot of money and growing.

Erik, easy-- don't make us BMW fans create a list about the sub-par attributes of an RS6.

I have not seen an offical time as of yet. One magaizne qouted an 8:13 I beleive which is only about 10 seconds faster then the E39 M5. So I am expecting with Sabine driving, to have the E60 M5 in the hihg 7:50 range. Quite good for a sedan, but it is still not a sportscar.

sport auto time is what everybody uses as reference to comapare different cars, the time they got was 8:13.

It has always worked to use the sport auto time, why not this time?

There´s a new Audi A6 available rigt now and in Europe there´s nobody who would rate the 5 series higher than the A6.

YEa well R&T has your wonderful RS6 only matching the old M5. Fact is it will and does run circles around anything close. Read all the reviews not just one and you'll see the light. All the reviews say the new M5 handles far better than either the RS6 or the E55 and is faster than a 911TT 0-200km/h. I also have read the above and heard under 8 around the ring

Well, that new and shiny M5 is also a lot younger than the RS6 and even the E55 for that matter. A sub-8-minute time is something that I don´t believe is even possible with the M5, but BMW still hyped it up. Wait until the new RS6 comes out in a year or two and we´ll see who runs circles around who .

Audi has it's work cut out for it, the old m5 was picked over the rs6 in most comparos and the new one is so much better than the rs6 it isn't even funny.

Hey, who's talking about the RS6?
I thought we were discussing the M5 E60?

The sub-8 minute time "everybody's" heard about is it full lap, BTG or what? There are no facts yet but I welcome them!

Talking about reviews. The M5 just lost against the CLS55 AMG in AMS. I would get the M5 over the CLS55 anyday, but we're talking times at the Ring now.

geez, you guys have all got to lighten up. we are talking about SECONDS here, AANNDD with an every-day-driver!!! this means absolutely NOTHING in the real world of driving and even street racing......at these small increments, it all comes down to driver skill. after all, we are not talking about track machines here. so why the debate over these meaningless numbers?? the better driver will win. period. my advice is to buy which car you like driving the best or even which one looks better to you, because at this point, we are basically talking about the same performance.
lordy, lordy!! even with two IDENTICAL drivers driving those two different street cars on, say, mullholland drive, one car is not going to pull from the other with all of the variables of street driving mishaps that go on in the real world...so, my point is: who cares? lol. buy what car you like the best based on everything else BUT which one went around the ring quickest. okay, i'm done ranting!

The point with sport auto as a reference is that they always use the same driver. Horst von Saurma, Chief Editor, is a good driver (drove the Carrera GT at 7.32) but of course there will always be a faster driver around with a higher death wish. But the problem with the 7:52 time is that there are NO facts about it. Was it BTG, full lap or? Until someone gives us any facts it's not of much help.

My point is. sport auto times have always been valid. Until now, when the new M5 didn't go as fast as expected. I myself could have bet money that it would do a time under 8 mins, but it didn't. The track wasn't exactly perfect (cold) but it wasn't exactly raining. Maybe it isn't as fast as everyone predicted, and that's on the bottom line in the sport auto verdict "M GmbH has promised too much"?
The M5 E60 was faster in comfort mode than in sports mode. My bet is they will bring out a new version, or offer a "Nürburgring" package for those who want to go really fast.

And - this has nothing to do with Audi or any other car. I would probably take the new M5 E60 over the RS6 or the E55 any day. The new M5 just isn't what the E39 was to the car industry when it was released, the competitor's are awake this time.

0-200km/h for Carrera S is 16.1 sec

60-100km/h
M5 2 sec
Carrera 2.5 sec

80-120km/h
M5 2.4 sec
