2nd gear popout

Is there a way of identifying a car that is going to have the tranny problem before it happens?

Date range?
Specific model?

Do any of the X50s have it?

IMO, the answer to your question is "not really".

While a small percentage of trannys had a potential mfg/assembly issue, (which might have been fixed at some point in production) the majority are caused by missed shifts and marginal trans design. The X50 and GT2 have the same tranny as the TT.

There are a few TSBs published by porsche on the issue- worth finding and reading.

not before it happens, that I am aware.

I have heard you have to run it up to 6000 then quickly let off the gas.
