STL 996TT is infamous around these parts
Another newbie question

Gotta love newbies, eh? I did search the forum on this and came up empty.

When I got the car, no CDs for the GPS.

So I researched and bought some on Ebay. 3 CD set supposedly from an '04. Problem is, GPS still no workie. I get an error message that says "CD Inserted Upside Down". Cracks me up!

Of course, it is in correctly, although I did flip it over a couple times to be sure.

Dealer here seems clueless about 996 PCM.

So, my question is, did I just get the wrong CDs, or do I have a problem with the GPS or CD drive? How can I tell?

Thanks!

Steve, I already like you cause I'm originally from STL. Where did you go to high school? (inside joke for the STL's)

I insisted on buying the DVDs for my GPS and when I finally got it loaded, I quickly learned that the NAV absolutely SUCKs.... Get a Garmin.

Steve - what year is your car? I think Porsche made a change in 04 to the nav system and if your car in 03 or before the 04 and beyond will not work. Check with another dealer. Hope this helps.

Went to Parkway Central '76. And I already have a couple of Garmins, but I really just want the PCM to work so I can get the actual GPS speed reading all the time, since my speedo is off by 4.5mph at any speed.

Looks like your car is an 2001, so you will need the older CD's. Use that money and get a new deck! Maps are old and technology is old...
