E55 or SL65
IMHO, the new M5 will be a class leader in overall performance. Also, my guess is that it will look damn good even though the e60 plaform isn't attractive in base-model trim.
Fred, just remember that I have first dibs on your TT when you decide to bail
.
Cheers.

For the 175k range you are better off getting a 360 spider. Great the SL65 can out perform the 360 spider, but its value will sink like the 600's do now and the Ferrari Spider will always have a high demand in resell. Also Mercedes is very presitgious dont get me wrong, but a Ferrari is a Ferrari, no doubt about it.

The V10 was tested at 530HP. Torque is unclear but hopefully close to 500 lb. ft. This is going to be one amazing car potentially with an option of either 6-speed ot SMG and a 50/50 weight distribution. Pricing is potentially at around $90,000.
It is going to be released at the Geneva International Auto Show in March 2004.
Cheers.

With doody on this one - saw a german registered 530 yesterday and it's an absolute shocker.
Msindi - you rate the continental? Had a look at one at the dealership the other day, and it's a bit of a barge. Admittedly a very fast barge. Looks great in photos, but thought it didn't quite seem to work in the flesh.
Got to be Ulrich Bez's new baby. The DB9s just stunning. The interiors a work of art - some great touches, like the cut glass starter button that changes colour from red to blue once you fire up. And 450 BHP
. You guys also get to see the first Volante - at Detroit in spring next year I think?

Fred, if you like the SL style, just wait until the 65 shows up and you will get a hell of a deal on an SL55, which is still potent. The CL & SL 65's will command big bucks(150+) even if the MSRP doesn't start out that high. Or, you could sell the current mods off your turbo and have enough to buy the new E55 outright!
E55
I'vehad an E-55 on order for 11 months already and it doesn't look like I will be seeing a car until next spring. I originally went to the E55 because I didn;t want to wait for the BMW but maybe I'll look at the M5 again.
i disagree that you'll see SL55 prices impacted heavily by the appearance of the SL65.
first, the SL55 market is inverting now (finally). most used listings seem to be listed at MSRP asking prices (instead of $xK over). in short order you'll see a necessary and serious correction (think about what happened with the 996TT market when the bloom fell off the rose). MB has grossly overproduced SL55s (huge margins, presumably - milk the cow as best you can!).
second, the 65 cars are by all accounts NOT going to be common at all. dealerships apparently will not stock them nor order them for their lots. they are a specialty car that clients will order if they want one. and the price premium will apparently be insane. they do not expect to sell many at all.
my two pennies.
doody.
