996tt-X50 is infamous around these parts
New 996 Owner

Hello all,

Just replaced my 95 993 C2 with a 02 996tt X-50. Big jump for my second Porsche, but I couldn't pass it up.

From what I can tell it is stock with a GIAC flash. It looks like most guys on here don't like the GIAC, is there a reason? Something better?

I live in NJ not far from AWE so I am guessing either them or Porsche of the Main Line did the flash. But I also know someone at PES-tuning, anyone try their software?

If I am looking to do some small mods for now what should I start with;
Diverter Valves? Bailey?
New flash?
Exhaust?

Look forward to being a part of this board. Looks like most guys here actually know what they are talking about unlike most other places.

Brad

I would reccomend a new flash from Vivid, Protomotive or EPL. Bailey DVs are good, also look at the classifieds section for a nice clean used exhaust. After that youre probably going to want to want the K24/18G treatment with a 5 bar and a new tune

Take a look at EVOMSit software. Lots of + comments on the forum. I switched from GIAC. Also consider softronic.

I also replace my 95 993 with at 996ttX50 three years ago. Pluses:, way more power and easy to modify for even more HP. Headers without losing your heater,
HVAC controls that work, hang pedals sit straight in front of you, a decent stock Bose sound system. Minuses: Stock suspension is way too high/soft and was very expensive to modify, eats rear tires, cheap gauge cluster (I really miss the 5 individual VDO gauges). those goofy front headlights only a mother could love. All in all I would have kept both of them but finance only permit one Porsche in the family.

IMO, if you are happy with the flash you have now, there's no point in spending the money to convert to another program. I'd spend the money elsewhere on mods....

+1

Mine came w/ a GIAC flash and I don't intend on re-flashing for a while. However, if mine did not come w/ one, then my pick would be the Softronic flash.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke with my friend at pes-tuning and his program goes to 566hp and 600+ with exhaust but it is $4995. I think im ok with the GIAC for now. I will probably order some DV's from bailey or something, I can never leave well enough alone. If there is anything I am missing or have to have please let me know. I will try to post some pics as soon as I get them.

Flash+exh should not do 600+hp. Ask him for tune from whom and details. Many friends here will help you to verify it. GL with mod.
