Shifter options
I'm running the 997ssk..... its much better than my old 996stock with techart short shifter... but even better again since I upgraded my engine mounts ! I have read that the 997 GT3.2 shifter is even better again, so will be interested to see if in time that is the 997 shifter of choice for fitment.
interesting any more info have you used any of the other options?
to comapre it?
to comapre it?
Same here, I have the 996 SSK and its great - much better than the stock shift which felt like mixing a bowl of porridge!
Closest comparison to the 'SSK feel' is a Cateram gear box if you've ever driven one, real short shift and a bit riffle bolt at first. I found 1st to 2nd much quicker, but 2nd to 3rd can be a little bit trcky at first. I think its because I was used to the massive travel and was moving across to much when changing.
When the gearbox is cold it can be a bit notchy but nothing excessive. Once warmed up and particularly when 'on a run' its ace, feels like the rest of the car with smooth super accurate gear change allowing you to keep the turbos spooled up.
After initial fitting of the SSK kit I thought it was too short a shift, if you look at the front of the gear **** under the gaitor there's an allen key bolt that can be loosen to allow you to slide the know up and down the shaft to increase or decrease the resulting travel and therefore fine tune it to your liking. This gave a setting in between the two (stock and SSK)

you have a 996SSK or 997 SSK?
I got rid of the B&M shifter that came in my car becuase it was notchy and did not function as well as I'd have hoped. I bought a 997 shifter and put it in the car and loved it... I'm now going with the PMNA Short shifter kit.
The B&M shifter comes at an attractive price. It's also the absolute worst shifter I've used in my car.

I have an OEM SSK that shifts beautifully....Dougherty Autosport adjusted it for me when a bunch of tranny work was done. If I were changing out, I'd get the PMNA part....much more costly, but cup car sourced....

Let us know your thoughts once you have it fitted !
I've driven two cars, one with the OEM SSK that jeff mentions, and one with the cupcar shifter... I'd opt for either of them as they're both great upgrades... I "thought" the B&M was fine... Hell, installing the 997OEM shifter was a HUGE upgrade over it. And we had it adjusted properly... I had it checked after I bought the car because it was so crappy feeling... The dealer said it was fine, then my indy adjusted it and it was "better" but no where near as good as the OEM SSK unit available. This is one upgrade that if you're going to make, don't just spend $200 on the B&M. Spend the $430 and get the SSK from Suncoast...Another excellent example of an area you can't scrimp on.
