Placement of HVAC and other dash controls

In my browsing of countless 996s, i've noticed that the placement of the HVAC and other controls in the center dash seems to vary quite a bit depending on whether the car has navigation, or it has a CD changer built-in, or other reasons I'm not aware of. I've ever seen on a GT2 where the lower portion of the console was deleted.

Is the relocation of these items within the dash fairly painless or fairly involved?

pretty easy to do, i'm pretty sure they are just held in by a couple of screws, search and you will find instructions, if not here try rennlist
