Thinking about cheatin on the german with an italian

Unless I nip tuck Heidi into tip top shape.

Ok guys...I have been on the fence a while about this. I have a 2002 TT with K24/18 Proto and various other mods on it. It has always been my dream in adulthood to own this car. Its fun, very reliable and still turns a few heads around town.

Recently, I have found that my childhood dream has been eating away at me. Every kid that grew up in the 80's had the 5 foot long Ferrari and Lamborghini poster in their room. Now that I am able enough to afford one, Im thinking why not? Im currently thinking about the Murci/Gallardo or a F430

I have heard that the build quality of the Murci is garbage compared to an audi built Gallardo. But to me (No offense to the G owners here) a Lambo isnt a Lambo without the scissor doors.

F430 is a helluva car. But living in chicago and having a high powered rear wheel drive car just isnt smart.

I spoke with markski today and am very interested in the kit that he is developing.

Should I dump what i have or just send her in under the knife. She has been a good wife after all.

Well it depends on what year Murci you get, if you get a 04-05 quality will be nice. the F430 will be nuts but as you said Chicago... you will die... Gallardo is a great car but more on the line of a DD than a crazy exotic. Id say go 05 Murci (they can be had for 140-150. its a great car, and a BLAST to drive. If anything just go test drive em. Best of luck!

Jeff, It depends on what you want ...If you want more power go for markski's kit...if not ...Dont think just do it..F 430 F1 will be my vote. I have spent a good bit of time driving Gallardo and F430 ..call me will chat.

I will be doing the same next year. F 430 can be had for 120-130 (6k miles), Murci's are in the 150k+ range..the cost of parts and maintenance is much higher in the Murci from what i have heard. Gallardo is very reliable , but i prefer the ride , sound of F430.

In my opinion , other than F430 being slower than your car ...it is better in every other aspect and its definitely more exciting to drive. Lets be honest 996tt is a boring car even though its fast...heck my M3 was more fun and had a soul.

996tt is a GT car ...now F430 is a true sports car. It still traps 122 mph stock, not bad as fast as a flashed 996tt.

norcal2 is infamous around these parts
"Im currently thinking about the Murci/Gallardo or a F430"
First thing to do is go sit in them, drive them, if you are tall, the Murci will be a better fit, the F430 is wider and has more room inside, the G has headroom but short on leg room.....

Giggalo,

First of all my friend.....I don't think you'll die in a F430 as you only put about 3000miles on your car this past year. I can do that in a weekend.

Second, driving any of the above mentioned cars in the winter is risky and definatelly not fun especially that we're in the rust belt and salt sucks.

So since sunny summer weekends is when you'll be enjoying the car, I suggest you drive the F the G and the M and make your pick. You might find them boring after all.

My experience is limited to driving a bunch of cars and hearing from the owners over time. I have been researching this for quite sometime.

Both are great cars. Gallardo feels a bit of a GT car to me , F430 is more visceral and , raw sports car feel to it, esp with f1. I think this is because of the AWD in Gallardo.

In terms of power the F430 is faster 121 trap vs 118 with F1 trans and E gear. But Gallardo has unlimited aftermarket potential, but why ruin a perfectly good NA car and make it turbo....if i wanted power i would just keep my 996tt and do something crazy.

In terms of handling Gallardo is excellent and very comparable to F430, i haven't driven on the track. Although they are pretty close, i prefer the RWD in the F430 for the street driving, just more fun and the car is very edgy.

Gallardo maybe be more reliable than a F430 due to Audi build quality etc...at the same time the F430's have been very reliable per their owners. The cost of parts and maintenance is lower on a Gallardo , but if you find a good indy either can be maintained at a reasonable price.

Looks...i wont go there...its subjective.

Racing Heritage , brand value ....enough said it goes to Ferrari.

Sound...to me i like the high pitched sound of F430 over the deeper sound of Gallardo. Both sound extremely good with aftermarket exhaust...but i think the F430 sounds f1 like, very exotic.

Price ...hands down Gallardo is the best value, you can buy a 2004 e gear now for 80k , most F430 (good ones) are still in the 120k range.

So its a tough decision, for me i always wanted a Ferrari so i might as well wait and get the best. Just dont want to go from one GT like car to another AWD GT like car....want something pure, raw and definitely NA this time.

Just listen to this...

I hear you, once you start driving them they feel fast even though they are very slow compared to our modded cars. Its best to have both 996tt and a exotic if you can afford both...at this point i cannot..

If I can throw in my two cents - I feel that any car that you tune should have some soul. The reason I say that is think back to the first ride home from the dealer. Remember how you felt, the sights / sounds, the way the car felt etc. When you tune your car you essentially are adding character, or really releasing character within the car. So I doubt very much your cars are boring.

Having said that, the nature of humans is wanting more, so I completely understand feeling bored with the car, BUT VBMW335 I drove your car and there is nothing lifeless about your time machine
In all honesty ANY Italian car you buy, you will need to get used to having money abruptly storm out of your account. I'm not saying they are all bad, but they are nowhere close to the reliability of a Porsche. Pure fact, Porsche is the only manufacturer that has won the most races to date. One of the key reasons for their success is durability and longitivity of the materials used.

If you are looking for power and torque then yes and Italian V8 or V12 will deliver the delicious rumble, sound, feeling, and essence you are looking for. If you are looking for more handling, less driver aid, and razor knife precision at a fraction of the price of the Italians without the reliability compromised, then have you considered a GT3 to be the badge?

Im not trying to talk anyone out of it as I love Ferrari and Lamborghini (personally a Lambo man myself) though when it comes to a car company that makes sense all around, its Porsche. Here's mine:

Hey Bac, Nice to see you posting. Your car is looking good, cant wait for some good weather and meets in Chi again. Yeah my car id fun until you drive some lambos, ferraris...its muted but very fast.

I not sure what i want to do...i love my trusty porsche but also lust at the Italians...its like i want a car mistress! lol
