Like Moton, 1 is for rebound, and 1 is for compression.

An update. Thanks to the advice from you all I have taken up my friend's offer. I've got the Ohlins now and I'm trying to look up more information on them on the web - but I can't find anything! In particular, being new to high end suspension I am not sure what the 2 ***** on the rear (1 on the tank and 1 at the top) are for? Also I can't seem to find this Ohlins for sale on the web anywhere?

I think the **** on the strut is compression and the **** on the canister is rebound, but don't quote me on that. You can always call the number and they will be happy to help.
