I have it. Get it. Well worth it (if that's possible to say in the same breath as Porsche options).
I know you guys can do anything, I was just kidding around. In your opinion, is the alum look interior I described nicer than an all standard"black" interior with thicker wheel.

Depends on what you're looking for. Stealth interior, all black, not much aluminum, is very nice indeed. A few bits here and there, good as well, and I like it.

Everything alumalook/silver? Well, that's over the top, but some folks want it, so we do it!

I don't like the metal wheels at all. Just personal preference. I like 'em all leather, thicker wheel. Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks Eric, I really appreciate your candor. I think I will go with the thicker wheel and keep the inetrior mostly black. Except the alum/leather gear shift know and handbrake and the alum dials that are standard.

I also agree the the stock wheel is too big. Ideally, a wheel should have no smooth plastic/cf/etc surface. It should be a material that has a little friction to it and absorbs moisture.

Leather or alcantera is always a good choice. The smaller the wheel, the faster responding to your input. Our steering ratio is not quick enough where the steering will become over sensitive by going to a smaller diameter wheel.

And of course, Al or CF is a look that some prefer, and hence, a compromise between function and fashion. And if applied to less critical areas of the wheel, it will not as obtrusive.

If I could have it my way, my current Porsche CF steering wheel would be about 20~25mm smaller in diameter, and thicker all the way around, with alcantara/suede replacing the smooth leather. I'd probably have sports seats with alcantara/suede centers to help with grip.

As it is, I may simply get the leather portion of my wheel recovered, adding additional padding only to the inside and rear of the wheel. That way, the wheel will be more substantial in feel without adding to the outer circumfrence.

my current Porsche CF steering wheel
Interesting that you think it should have no smooth surface, but have the CF wheel (it's quite pretty). I also have the CF wheel, and it's a first for me. I like the smooth portion just as much as the leather, for driving (not just looks).

Well... I like the look of the CF, and for the track, my hands rarely stray from the 2/10 or 3/9 o'clock position. So it really isn't an issue.

Trust me, if the Porsche steering wheel was entirely encased in CF or Alu-look, everyone would be all over it... it'd be about as unsporting of a steering wheel as it could get in terms of functionality and design.

You really don't want anything smooth that can become slippery with moisture... that's why you'll never see anything like that on a serious track car, ie. F1, Cup Challenge, Le Mans, Daytona, etc.

One of the thickest oem wheels I've seen is in the VW R32 optional sport wheel. It's in alcantera, and boy, it is thick as heck. Nice wheel.

LSM, you can, also, think about adding the small alu package as it comes with some items covered in leather.

my 03 C2 had the regular stock wheel and my 04 TT has the thicker wheel. I really prefer the thicker wheel.
