Rear wing hardware problem

I bought a new rear wing that is about the size of the 997TT wing, which I think looks more proportional for the rear of the car.

I removed the stock wing no problem, but when I tried to remove the mounting hardware from the stock wing to attach to the new wing, it appears that they are glued in. I didn't want to force it so thought I better stop and consult with some of you guys who have already done this.

Were your's glued in? What do you do to break it loose? I don't want to trash the stock wing. I have the 14mm allan socket and wrench that fits the hardware.

Larry, it may have some loctite type material on it, but you can break it loose...just need some serious torque...that is what you must do. Also recommend you use loctite blue when reinstalling. GL and post some pics.

Larry,

I concur with Wross. It's a little tight but what I did was put the oem wing on a carpet and just do it

Geez, there was no way I could break these fittings loose with a regular socket and ratchet. Luckily I have a 24v cordless impact driver. Even that was having a hard time and backing the fittings out slowly, and they were hot as hell when I got them out. Good news is no damage to the stock wing. Bill suggested I use locktite blue for reinsertion to the new wing. What is the difference between locktite blue and locktite red? I'm thinking I might want to use the weaker of the two.

Blue is the weaker...it can be broken more easily.

I am unable to remove those bolt or hardvare mounting.
My wing is a Ruf. I am going to put back the OEM. Anybody know if those bolts?nuts or harvare are available on the market?
Thanks

I just took one off a customer's car yesterday. It was really tight and we had to use a breaker bar to break it off. Still no damage to the wing and it came out ok. There was so much loctite on it, the threads were covered with loctite "dust"

If you really can't get it off, I'd suggest taking it to the dealer and seeing if they will crank it out

Edwin

Unhappy

Hi Edwin.
Thanks for your suggestion.
I did take it at Porsche dealership here in Baton Rouge, LA.
They were unable to take it out. There were afraid to damage my Ruf Wing. Now I would like to know if I can purchase those bolt (hardware) somewhere.
Thanks
Michele

i've been llokin around too and ask around, even the dealership, the whole top wing comes with it. it would be a big help if anybody in the board can let us know where to get it or somebody among our sponsor could make it.

Dealers will only sell them with the wing. Dismantlers will only sell them with the wing for the same price as new. I even tried aftermarket fastener suppliers with no luck.

Do you have an impact gun? It seems like that is going to be the only way to get it out. You can get an Ingersoll Rand 231C for about $115 and it should be strong enough to take it out. After you have one, you put it to MANY more uses as well.
