Z06/C6 vs 996TT
Is there any model (TT) year that is better than other years? If memory serves, the n/a cars where made for a few years before the turbos arrived, which you would think gave them enough time to solve any teething problems but that's why I ask.
My preference would be for a car with mods. Depending how it's done and what's been done, those owners tend to respect their cars more than the average guy. It doesn't hurt a d**n thing to romp on either one of these cars, just as long as you know when to shift...

Porsches are amazingly durable in every sense, seats, body, driveline....
There is some majic in the engineering. It's really a simple car but it's OVERBUILT by 2 fold everywehere with no doodads, if you're lucky there's heated steats and a NAV. But they have that "it" thing going. There isn't a turbo porsche that isn't special to this day.
Let's hope VW doesn't sacrifice that. I'm sure the cars are going to evolve quickly now. Let's just hope they stay iron block durable.

Is funny, when folks talk about turning up the wick to go fast everyone screams about how the rods are an issue and how expensive it is to pull the motor apart and build for high boost. but when someone asks about modifying one of these cars this doesn't come up and the car is rock solid. Likewise no one mentions that a great deal of work on these cars requires you to drop the motor part way or fully out of the car to do the work. Injectors, water manifolds, clutch components, and a great many other potential gotcha's aren't mentioned.
Make no mistake I really enjoy my 911 but there are certainly some areas that someone who is used to modifying V8s or Japanese cars should be aware of and cognizant of - especially if they desire to do any tuning or wrenching on their own....
