That pic is dated 2004. Get a new block or have that one sleeved. It is common with that motor.

Do you offer a kit to upgrade the ims to the latest one? Also a pic of the deck after sleeve's are installed that way maybe some people will understand how much work it is that gets done. I dont know what type of sleeve's you install but the ones I have seen are flanged and that adds strength to the top of the sleeve and keeps the sleeve from flexing. Open decks are for the birds...

That picture is dated 2004 because it is not my picture. I found it on the internet. But the crack that my car has is identical to that one. So I would strip it down and send it to you, then you would upgrade them to better sleeves? And what about the rings and other mis. parts? are those included? thanks for the help again

Also, the mechanic has now told me that since he has stripped the engine down to see inside the cylinders, I have to get a new head gasket because once the engine is opened up you cannot use the same head gasket? He is charging me $5,600 for the head gasket job alone. Is this fair? and if not what could I do to try to get a fair price

Where do you live? That number is close to what the whole job should cost. What year is your car? I see '99-00 going for very low teens lately. Your mechanic's price is just about half way there.

My car is a 2001. And I live in Toronto Canada. The mechanic initially estimated me $5600 to just fix the head gasket. But now he has found a crack in cylinder 1 sleeve.

That is high for a N/A head gasket job if you are asking me, but if you took your car to a race shop then that maybe a cheap number. 01 is E gas so you can put almost any of the N/A motors in your car. Protomotive and softronic have flashes for those engine swaps, there maybe more tuners that can help if you say put a 3.8S motor in because you got a stellar deal on it. Good luck.

Thanks for the Responses guys. Since I have a crack in cylinder 1 I can just replace the cylinders. But would I also have to replace the head gasket now? I have decided to go with Jake raby's cylinder replacement for the 996. It costs about $3000 just for the cylinders. How much more is this going to cost me?
