New cylinder head question

Hi

My car is at the dealer right now getting the right side cyclinder head replaced because there was a small crack leaking coolant. Is there anything to look for after a head replacement? I'm just kind of worried that the car will not be the same bacause both side are now not even. Has anybody had this problem before with their TT. Should there be anything I need to look for after I get the car back.

Thanks
Gobie

There should't be any problems if the dealer installs it correctly. It's a pretty easy install, so it's hard to believe they could screw it up. They will perform a compression test and a leakdown test to make sure that all componants and seals are right.

Cool heads up

Hi, the dealer will probably drop the engine ( I hope so ) to rnr the head. The leak you describe sounds like an external leak. Anyway coolant in your oil is sort of obvious, when they drain the oil it will look like oil or a milk shake. So mention this to them, and talk to the tech if they will allow you to do so. As well, Porsche holds very tight tolerances, so differences from side to side, isnt much of a problem, and timming the cam is fool proof (almost, aargh!), they use "fixtures" similar to hydraulic 993 engines.
Your concerns are founded, also there are plenty of qualified techs, just make sure you got one on the job. Talk to your advisor and the tech until you are satisfied with them, or find another dealer. Hope this helps.

Cylinder crack

Hey guys, I have a 2001 c4, and porsche said that there is coolant/moisture in cylinder 1 and possibly 5. There is not any oil in the coolant, but i think there might be coolant in the oil because I drained the oil myself and it was very thick and black. I couldnt get all the oil out and most of the oil is stuck in there because its so thick Also the engine light is on and flashes on startup sometimes. Any idea what the problem is? I am thinking about fixing a cylinder head crack. But im not sure. any help would be great thanks!

Hi

water in the oil would look "milkshake" like, ala 944.
How did they make this determination? Wet plugs?
I could use a little more info on this.

Thanks for the response jayster and forgive the delay. I drained the oil myself recently. it was very thick but that could be because the car was sitting in cold weather for a few days. The oil was black and I was not able to get it all out because it was so thick. I only got about half of it out. And porsche said that they found signs of coolant in cylinder 1 and 5. I don't want to sound desperate but I have been struggling with this problem for years. And I need your input. Thanks.

Motor has to be dropped to remove a cylinder head in these cars as the cams have to be removed to get at the head studs so 90% of the motor has to be disassembled for that to happen.

there has been some reportings of bad castings leaking coolant that is why they are changing the head i assume.

So is it worthit to drop the engine and remove the heads? or is it better to just swap the engine?
