If you say the motor, that turned a 1.9 0-60 mph, wasn't running stock internals, then you must be right.

Thanks for the kind words Sharky, I hope you'be got a bit of drag racing bug now too!

We are working on some modifications now over our Summer months to improve things and hopefully go quicker and faster (still retaining pump fuel, full exhaust with cats and mufflers).

Also working on using more cameras for a better movie .. that stuff can be fun!

As much as I love road racing doing a bit of drag racing is always fun No matter what anyone says it's not as easy as it looks either! We'll have to see where we both get to in the new year. I'm looking to have my trap speeds in the mid 130s and with a good launch that should make things interesting

Yeah, I tried the 1/4 for my first time in another car and it wasn't easy. I got all confused with those yellow lights. It is not as easy as everyone thinks. Also, having everyone looking at you doesn't help. So pressure is always on not to stall or mess up the launch.

Alex, you better be coming to my party!

It's definitely not as easy as it looks! It can be very frustrating when you are faced with challenge after challenge (both engineering and driving skill).

Most people are too afraid to take their pride and joy to the drag strip because the wishful thinking about their horsepower levels gets exposed to the cold hard light of day (or night!). The fragile ego of your average modified car nut cannot stand up to a timeslip and it's trap speed in black and white for all to see.

Well done to those who had the guts to put it on the line.

Hint: All wheel drive launch at the drag strip for best short time is not mechanically sympathetic! Lots of revs and MONSTER clutch slip at the very limit of traction will get you the best 60' time. If you can't smell your clutch in the return road, you didn't launch and slip hard enough.

I second that. I'm on my second one. I've done at least 50 runs over the 2 years.. and all these articles that say our turbos run 11.9 sec stock or something like that... I say- show me the slip!
heres mine: stage 3 upgrade(fvd) with video

Hehe. I bet you do and I bet you come away smiling too!

The drag strip is the ultimate place for any "grudge match" because the sophisticated timing setups to ensure both racers leave the line with the same opportunities (ie no one leaves early). Furthermore you've got the timeslips to show after the event to prove who beat who on any particular race.

When you can take the RT out of it (ie just look at the ETs and trap speed) you get a rock solid picture of who beat who for a certain race.

The thing to bear in mind with these shootout results when comparing to US Domestic muscle car type outcomes is that a Porsche 911 turbo with street radials is a whole different beast to a big block powered muscle car with live rar axle, wheel tubs, four links, 90/10 shocks and slicks. Those same muscle cars that run 9 second passes at the strip might get chewed up and spat out by your Porsche on the street. Why? Because they cannot get the power down with street legal rubber.

Once you solve the horsepower problem (the easiest challenge) then the real hard work begins. No use having monster power if it cannot be applied to the ground. And getting a high horsepower, heavy, IRS street car with street radials to run good numbers at a drag strip is NOT EASY. By comparison getting a muscle car to run a 10 second pass is child's play (by virtue of the live rear axle, etc ,etc).

It's all good fun!

thanks... I got this sticker at the Gingerman track... when I went for a meet with a bunch of guys with very exotic race cars. My dealership, a lambo dealer sponsors the event once a year. a gentleman there was giving them out to us .... he drove an F40. So i gladly took it and put it on my car.
