Anyone have a picture of the area where these glued connections are? I might want to do some preventative maintenance.

Here's the end game. It was one hose clamp on the hose bringing coolant
to or from the transmission that was loose.* The Porsche shop 30 miles north
of me, that did the clutch job and made the mistake sent a driver and a
Cayenne to take me from my home to the Porsche dealer an hour south of
me so I could pick up my car. Porsche employees are always very nice and
interested.
Joe

The first shop will pay the $200 to tighten that clamp and refill and check\
things out (of course). I think everybody is very relieved, knowing that
under the worst circumstances, this error might have meant a $20,000
fixup...

* PS: also, now i'm confused, because I'm told there's no coolant hose
to/from the tranny, but there are heater lines near there....

Here is the upgrade kit my local engine builder has come up with before welding.

Nice, Don. I wish I would have done mine when it was out. I have a time bomb, again.

Your part looks different than mine, though - maybe it's the angle?

Thanks John, I think this is a great solution for the crappy OEM fittings that are glued in. Anyone that has their motor out should have this kit installed IMO. I believe their is 2 pieces that have these fittings in them. I believe the repair kit has 8 pieces total.

Larry,

No, it's the oil reservoir tank cooler - a small radiator for cooling the oil and the fittings are press fit and glued in place. The epoxy breaks down and the fittings pop out. It has happened to me twice now. The original part went 6 years. The second time was a new OEM part that failed after less than 1 year, while under warranty. The problem is that the part is not the big money, the labor to replace it is...if I ever have to go there again, without question, I will have the fittings welded in place to prevent it from ever happening again.

Are the OEM fittings made of the same material as the cooler? If not, who can this kit be purchased from?

ryancr500 is infamous around these parts
I dumped all my rad fluid on Friday

I think I may have just had the same problem. I noticed in my rear view a steamy cloud of mist trailing behind me. At first, I thought it was mist from the wet road... until the engine temp light came on. I managed to coast to a gas station a few blocks away and tried to locate the leak. It seemed to come from under the intake at the rear of the motor. I couldn't see the actual leak from any point I could access but when I poured water in the overflow tank, it seemed to instantly come out from the leak source.
I may need to purchase this upgraded kit to replace the glued fittings. If anyone has the number, please pass it on.

I have my fingers crossed that it's just burst hose, but I'm prepped for the worst.

Ryan

While the part looks more robust than the original, what about the design will keep it from coming out again?

I am dealing with the same problem now.

Can you post the name of the shop and their contact info?

Under what conditions did it fail? Track day?

And which one in particular...the one that is glued in near the top of the motor?

Yes, it was a track day. Failed in the middle of a very high speed corner at Sebring. Not pretty. Luckily neither I nor anyone else was hurt.

Here is a picture of mine welded up for a permanent fix. After two incidents, I hope I'm done with this...
