Fuel Pump possibly on way out!!!
My Fuel Pump is making a funny noise, it's definitely pump as we pulled fuse and noise has stopped... is it just straight replacement part or an upgraded item etc? Thanks
Thanks, is there a part number for the newer item?
I incorrectly replaced my pump 2 months (turned out to be a boost leak) but at least I have peace of mind that I have the newer version now and it's done.
Pretty sure it's this one I got: 996-620-107-02

if you only need the pump itself, buy one used, many had the fuel lines go bad and had to replace the whole assembly and get a new pump just to get the new lines. You can disconnect the pump from the assembly, you might be able to find one in good condition from somoeone who replaced it with low milleage. I don't thing the electric pump itself oftenly goes bad on these, more a trouble with the lines though.
I know i have a perfectly working pump here with a bad hose system... It might end up doing something pretty with the pool in the backyard

the fuel pump is one place where I would not go used when replacing. If that thing fails at WOT 6k rpm, you might just be looking at a new 1000 hp engine build
I agree but then again, my fuel line failed, just leaking, and i was doing testing at WOT (datalogging) and the ecu saved the engine many times because i was missing fuel pressure (worst than having none i beleive) and the engine pulled timing in order to save the engine. The only symptom i had was something like a misfire so i thought it was the plugs or the tune. And harder i went to see if it would come back.
I can tell you that if it was my rotary that had that kind of trouble, it would be long gone.
The ECU on that Porsche is AMAZING... Anyway, just sharing a piece of history

Agreed. I am a miser and all about saving money wherever I can, especially on these labor intensive cars, but once you're in there I can't see not spending the few hundred bucks for a new upgraded pump and call it done!
ok. that makes sense.
also what kind of mileage do you guys have when replacing pump. I mean miles on the car, 40k, 50k, etc?
