Living with a 996 GT2 questions

I'm currently back in grad school, so my beloved Viper is in storage. As soon as I'm done, I'll be looking to add a toy to the collection. The GT2 is at the top of the list. Among the others considered are a Ferrari 355/360 , Viper ACR, and a 28' Skater catamaran.

So far, the Viper has been dead-nuts reliable. I haven't had to do anything other than replace tires and fluids. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a roof or windows. I'd like to have something that I can bring out when there's a 30% chance of rain and that I can lock and leave somewhere. The lack of a roof also keeps me out of most track events since I don't have a roll bar.

How much worse is living with a GT2? I've heard horror stories about having to drop the motor to change spark plugs and other crazy-expensive maintenance items. I'm fully capable of doing just about anything mechanical with a car, so dropping an engine doesn't scare me.

The car would see as much track use as I could manage, and I'd like to be able to drive it to/from work on nice days.

Any idea what it would cost to drive on a per-mile (consumables) and per-year (preventative) basis? Please PM me if you don't want to put such numbers here.
