Nod Lou. It's really dicey. There's space to do it and at the right time there are no other cars out there but even so... it's a risk. I'm not sure I want to be put in the slammer for a while with bubba and my English accent.
So with that in mind, I never go past the posted speed limit on the street. Honest...

How long to 180?
Buddy. How long does it take to get to 180? Just curious how long I'd be at risk of insanely high dollar tickets (and brief jail time, vehicle impound, etc.) if I were to decide to give this a try...
Reminds me of a funny story from the land of photo radar. My business partner used to have a habit of driving triple digit speeds frequently. One day he was on the way to visit a friend and, after stopping briefly to drop something off, he headed back exactly the same way as he came. Not expecting to see a photo radar unit in his path, he blew by the unit at 125 mph.
Certain that the camera could not take a clear picture of the driver, given his speed, he decided to contest the ticket in court. During his court appearance, he requested to see the ticket to prove his point that the evidence was inconclusive. Once seeing the photo, however, the only words he could come up with were "your honor, that is a remarkably good likeness of me... could I have a copy of that photo."
Yours in speed,

Yours in speed,
Racer,
It does not take long!! Hard to put the time on it, because I really wasn't looking at my watch. But with Stage 5 turbo's spooled up drop it into 4th gear and slam the throttle and hold on!! It gets there in a hurry, the only reason I really let up was that I was coming up on traffic and at 180 and climbing you don't want some idiot from the far right lane to decide he is going to the far left lane!!

Don't know if this wonderful story made it's way here, but not too long ago a Diablo was stopped at 182.
Driver Clocked at 182
And the smoking gun...
182 in a Diablo

How fast do you think you can go without being arrested if you are pulled over in NY, MA, NJ or PA. I am sure it's a real gray area, but would be curious to know if anyone has any insight or experience on this. Once I break my baby in, I would like to blow it out for a little bit if the conditions are right, however, I get a nausious feeling in my gut everytime I think about it and the possible consequences that could ensue...
PA's vehicle code's strongest penalty is defined as 31 or more miles over the posted limit. But it seems they are good at stacking charges for excessive speeding (like reckless endangerment, and unless you factor in other possible charges, my post is meaningless.
Mr. Diablo picked up 10 charges. Check the smoking gun link above to get an idea what you'd be in for.

That the person be required to attend a driver improvement school.
That the person undergo an examination as provided for in section 1508.
That the person have his driver's license suspended for a period not exceeding 15 days.
The department shall effect at least one of the sanctions but may not increase any suspension beyond 15 days.
Failure to attend the hearing or to attend and satisfactorily complete the requirements of a driver improvement school shall result in the suspension of such person's operating privilege for 60 days. Failure to pass an examination shall result in the suspension of such person's operating privilege until the examination has been satisfactorily completed.

All of the fines and jail time sound bad but it would be nothing compared to losing control at those speeds and killing or permanently injuring yourself or somebody else. That's what I think about at triple digit speeds 'hmmm, how bad would a blowout be at this speed?'.

Kevin, you hit it on the head!!! I think that is exactly what gives me the kweezy/nausious feeling when I think about triple digit speed. That must be my common sense/self preservation instinct kicking in...

The car broke in half and he was thrown over 50 feet (no seat belt). Dead at the scene. Not sure how he missed the other traffic, but luckily no other vehicles were involved. All accounts said that he was a good guy, 37 years old and a very successful business owner. Can't understand what prompted him to do such a foolish thing. He definitely is a candidate for the Darwin Awards.

Personally, I'm leery of doing this in a car without racing safety equipment (cage, seats, belts, helmet, hans, etc.). But, if its only for 30 seconds or so, on a deserted road in the middle of nowhere... I might do it just for the one time experience.
There are much crazier things one could do. Like drive down the 101 in Scottsdale during rush hour (much higher probability of death even doing the speed limit), driving a motorcycle without a helmet (much more dangerous), sky diving, eating to excess (risk of heart attack, although the risk is not immediate), golden gloves level or higher boxing, smoking, drinking to excess (even without driving, I'm just talking cumulative effects of alcoholism), etc.
Bottom line, choose your poison/risk and do your best not to involve others in your ultimate demise if in fact your poison/risk leads to an unfortunate outcome.
