What about the Autobahn in Germany. How often do Porsches and other cars reach sub-orbital speeds? I certainly understand the fear of killing oneself or others but is any of the fear related to the sheer fact that it is soooo far in excess of the utterly stupid posted limit?

Hey Ken -

I'm not sure what you're asking, or who you're asking it of.

As far as 180 mph hour speeds go, my greatest fear would be tickets and jail time, followed closely by the fear of the poorly trained american drivers that pilot most cars on the highway. The speed limit itself is kind of a non issue.

Driver Clocked at 182

And the smoking gun...

182 in a Diablo
So, what ever happened to this guy. The article stops with the charges and no follow-up.

No clue. Hopefully he received a DUI charge as that kind of conduct (drinking and driving) deserves severe punishment.

(Gotta read the article.)

P.S. When people quote the phrase "speed kills", they usually do it out of ignorance (neglecting to account for the fact that speed works out just fine in places like the Autobahn), or they inadvertently leave out the three conditions under which speed actually does kill:

1. You lack the skill to handle the speed you are driving
2. You lack judgment as to when speed can be safely acheived
3. You are drinking while driving (and were too intoxicated to do 1 and/or 2 above)

Yours in speed,

Well said. BTW, I read the article, it never says what happened, it just shows everything he was charged with.

Yeah. Sorry, I guess I didn't make it clear... I was pointing others to the article in case they missed it so they could see what we were saying.
