HELP needed: Unable to open the trunk!!

Hi guys!I've a '01 996TT and I'm ready to run the car after a winter season but I've a little problem...
My battery is down and unable to open the trunk... In the owner's book, page 172, we can use the donor battery to open the trunk.... but.... doesn't WORK grrrrrrr....

My key head is unoperated too so doesn't someone have an idea about how to open the trunk manually ?????

Thanks for all! ahhhhhhh winter season and bad storage.....

JB

The "donor" battery method is outlined on page 178 of my owners manual (2003). This method should work if you have a battery with sufficient voltage and are hooking it up correctly. If not, there are a couple of other possible methods with some varying degrees of difficulty.

I have heard of people using 12 VDC cigarette lighter chargers (low amperage chargers) to slowly "trickle" charge their batteries, but don't know if this will work or not on the Porsche. If the cigarette lighter is "switched" with a relay via the key, and your battery is dead, then you'll have no luck with this method. Perhaps someone else can chime in on whether or not this will work.

A much more painful method would be to pull your right front wheel and the forward plastic wheel well liner (which is a chore in itself). There is a thin stainless steel cable that should be hidden behind the front bumper cover and behind the front wheel well liner. That cable is hooked directly to the hood release and can be pulled to manually open the hood. You can't pull the bumper cover as you can't get the hood open, so you're left to hunt for it via removing the wheel well liner. There is also a similar release cable for the rear (engine) hood.

Last time I had my rear bumper cover off, I took the rear release cable and ran it over under the left taillight (the taillight will have to be removed to do this). I then used some heavy aluminum tape, and I taped it down so that the tip of the circular loop that's at the end of the cable just barely sticks out (about 1/16") from underneath the forward edge of the left taillight when the taillight's installed. You have to look closely at the taillight to see the release cable - - - it's not obvious at all (but my car is silver). Now if I kill the battery, all I have to do is use some needle nose pliers (or a piece of safety wire or similar), grab the end of the loop, and pull the cable. That will get me into the engine compartment where you're supposed to jump the car if necessary. I tried to do the same with the front release cable, but couldn't find an easy place to "hide" the end of the cable that would be accessible.

Might be time to hook up a battery tender with easy access. Good luck!

in your fuse box in the footwell driver side there are two pull out prongs, pos and neg. you can run a starter cable from it to another cars battery to provide power and click open the trunk. very simple.

yea connect postitive to terminal near oil filter, and connect the neg/ground to the oil reservoir bolt (not oil pan).

Op said battery is dead. So engine bay could not be switched open (same to trunk).
Best way is to jump battery at fuse terminal and open all trunk & bay. Thread#2
(engine bay could be open by manual. More work though.
Wire to pull is inside after remove Left tail light. US)

You can also get a Batt charger through the cig. lighter and that would give you enough juice to open the trunk.

Well said, great team here!..

The sense of satisfaction when you fix something (with or without guidance from this forum) is great.

Power of the web..
