Tuning for high altitude

I'm still very new to the TT. I will be driving it stock for the next year and then probably start to do some mods. I was curious if a custom flash would be important for those of us at high altitude. Most of my driving is done between 6000-7000 feet. Or, are OTSM's OK and the car itself is capable of adapting as it does stock? If the answer is yes, then what happens when I travel to sea level locations?
