sounds a bit shady to be honest i know from what my service adviser told me taht porsche does not like the mechanic or the dealer to dismantle the ngine or rebuild they would rather have the "damaged" motor and have porsche AG to take a look at it and figure out what went wrong.. that is the reason why dont really like rebuilding motors or trannys....

They operate in a world of their own and make the rules up as they please. They obviously ripped him and he fell for it.

Look at Robyn's post above, multiple engines in two cars. That can not help resale. In fact it scares me about the choice I maid buying this car. I wanted to keep the car for a long time, but that was assuming I did not have to spend large amounts of $ on repairs when I am out of warranty. So what do you do? sell it when the warranty is done and be locked into buying a new car every four years? That isn't right.

Why not just extend your warranty? In Australia we can extend it for anything upto 9 years from when bought new? Also we only get a 2 yr warranty on the car not 4 like you guys do.

Totally agree there is no excuse especially when you fork out the money you do for a car like the 911. I have a 95 Nissan Maxima and has never been the shop for anything. At the same time though the suspension is abit sloppy the steering is quite loose and the ABS is not that flash. Every car company has its problems the RMS is the 9x6 ( and looks like the 9x7) ailment. I am not going to cry over it, if it leaks I will get it fixed, hell take a look at the GM 5.7lt Gen III engine now if Porsche put that in their car you can cry foul. Dont know maybe I am too lay back about the issue but it wont be the end of the world for me.
ps we pay something like US$165K for the base 911 so I do expect more than a leaking engine dont get me wrong - just not worth worrying about it life is too short

My experience has been pretty good with Porsche. Generally they stay together pretty well. I'm not scared of this new engine or the car for that matter. This one was like this from the factory. It's not something that developed over time. The new engine sounds/runs great. I'll hang on to it for a while. As for resale, the fact there's so many for sale is what's hurting the car, not the new engine.
Thanks,
Ted.

Hi Neil,
You know what? I asked at one point and forgot to ask again. It's up there right now. I will ask this afternoon and get back. If so, I'm sure it would only be extended for the engine.
Thanks,
Ted.
