what is a PPI

I did a search and got a ton of results, but most of them just mentioned a PPI. What does the PPI consist of? Does the dealer or independent shop do PPI? What are the important thing to look for? Thanks.

PPI= Pre-Purchase Inspection. Getting one is a necessity, what it consists of I haven't seen a conclusive list of items. Should be performed by a Porsche specialist for sure, regardless of if it's a Porsche dealership or indy.

I saw a nice looking 996TT on eBay the other day. Car looked great. In the description it said the car needed $4300 in work. While that seller was being honest about the condition of the car and what it needed, to an amateur buyer (me) I would have probably driven the car home and been happy for a short while before determining it needed work. Moral of the story is either become an expert or hire an expert to check over any 996 you're considering.

I recommned an inspection using the Porsche Certified Pre Owned Checklist- each of their items on the CPO checklist, using the published criteria. Anyone can do this, not just a P dealer.

Add a Dump of the DME to look at ANY codes and over-rev data.

Add compression/leakdown if there is any concern. (This is very expensive and prolly only needed if other things look 'off'.)

fwiw I paid about 800 for a ppi on the car I bought. If the car has big mods compression/leakdown is essential imo.

Unhappy

Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to have it checked by a professional before I buy. I'm looking for a stock one with low miles, so I'll take my time and drive as many as I can so I have a feel for the car. I know one thing I already don't like is the high clutch engagement. Since I was 16, 98 percent of my vehicles have been stick, and I still manage to stall the 01 I drove this week-end twice.

Search for the gt2 slave conversion, and the RSS clutch stop. I have the RSS stop and love it. I am going to wait till my current accumulator fails and go the gt2 route.

I searched the clutch engagement issue after I drove the turbo for the first time to see if that was how they all were or the car I was driving had a bad clutch. I found the GT2 slave conversion and it looked like something I would change when I had to put in a clutch. I didn't see anything on the RSS stop but I'll be sure to search it.

Ah I forgot, search for the return spring removal as well. That had a nice effect too.
