I think the stock tips may be polished stainless steel and not chrome. If so just clean with lacquer thinner and scotch bright pads. If actual chrome plated, clean with muratic acid to remove the chrome. You can heat with a propane torch or even use a toaster oven or gas grill outside to bake the heat on. Even going for a long drive will cure freshly painted tips.
