Holy Smokes!
Holy Smokes!
After lurking for 6 months on this forum looking for a car I finally pulled the trigger!
I flew down to Phoenix on Wednesday and picked up Joe Curry's GT2.
Joe was great to deal with and the car was as described.
It's a super sweet car with all the right mods. I figured by the time I bought a regular 996TT and modded it I would be in for the same $ so why not stop screwing around, bite the bullet, and get the GT2!!
I had a fairly uneventful trip until I hit Seattle at rush hour this morning.
The car was wandering a little more than usual and the steering wheel was turned to the right a bit. Next thing I know the car changes lanes by itself!!
I looked it the rear view to see large chunks coming off the rear tire.
The tires were getting down there before I left Phoenix but I thought I would make it back to Vancouver before replacing the set. I guess I was wrong.
A call to AAA and I was on the flatdeck in no time.
Now the bad news, It's very hard to find a 335/30/18 in Seattle. It was looking like I had to leave the car in Seattleuntil Monday....
A quick call to my boss and we were on the way to see Colin at Cantrell Motorsports. 1 Hour later I had a set of sweet used 315 Michelins on the car and I was off to the border. Hats off to Cantrell for dropping everything and getting me back on the road.
I slid through the border and imported the car without any drama, paid my taxes and I am home!!
All in all a great experience and a great car. Mental note: respect the loud pedal as the car likes to show people both sides of the car while accelerating!! I have to figure out how to turn the boost down!!!

Congrats!!! On the car and the semi-safe trip home. Was there any damage to the car from the tire? I'm more afraid of the car getting damage from a blown tire then I am of the flat itself. Anyway that will always be a great story to tell about getting the car.
I will get some this weekend.
not tag yet I still need an inspection then its game on!!!
Can someone walk me through the GIAC pocket programmer? I tried to upload the stock map and it looks like it's connected but the boost is still 1.4-1.5 bar even when set on stock mode??? What the??

Yes, a great number of low mile Porsches are headed out of the US to Canada these days.
The importation is painless if you don't count the 18% tax we pay to the feds when we import!!!
Typical asking prices for low mile 996 TT in Vancouver ranges from $65-70,000.
There are some high mile cars here for $50,000 though.

Congrats on the great car. I had a blow out this past week myself in no-where Oregon. I had more damage from the tow truck than the blow out. The hard part is that I was stuck in Burns Oregon for 3 days until they could get a new tire. Glad your home safe. Enjoy your new ride!
EZ it kinda sucks as tires seem to be hard to find in major cities let alone the middle of nowhere. I just need to find a new inner fender panel to replace the one that melted!!
You are VERY lucky you were not in heavy traffic at speed when that blew out as it would have been messy. Nothing like a road trip in a new car to learn about it and see the countryside. Good story for the rest of us as my rear PS2's are now almost slicks - your experience tells me to replace now! Congratulations on your new ride.
