Forum Wars Continued: GTR vs 996
This is really well written and extremely accurate. Some of the things that I have read posted about Tyms lack of fab work in this thread and how he is a bolt on tuner(yeah he is bolting on alot of custom parts that he designs, specs, welds, assembles, sources and/or fabricates LOL) are
and show the truth that people will just type to hear themselves type...with not having first hand knowledge. Crazy world we live in...crazy.
Also the GTR comment, and I quote, "I don't think Switzer has built or is planning to build one of those"...is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever read. I know of one for sure that is being BUILT(seen with my own eyes)...but I guess if someone posts that they don't THINK that Tym is planning one of those...then they can post that...its a free country.

The problem with this scenario is that I like and respect both tuners, something you can't seem to pull yourself to do. The facts are the facts and everything I have stated is true. AMS is building a GT-R engine right now, I don't think Switzer has built or is planning to build one of those. That being said, AMS is using EPL for tuning the Porsche stuff for most of their applications, Switzer can tune almost anything. Both are great for different reasons. Depending on what you're looking for and how you want it, there are benefits to using either. I'm not trying to exalt one over the other, only to say that you can't consider everyone else inferior when in fact they do have some more and different things to offer than switzer. FACE IT!!! Who's better depends on the customer and what they are looking for, and that my friend is a case by case scenario.
Can't you acknowledge that just maybe another tuner on the planet knows what they are doing? Or will that send you into convulsions.
And if you can't read I said ONE OF IF NOT the best in the country.......... (In case you are confused that is not an open declaration of superiority like you like to do) I'm sure that gave you the twitch to hear those words not have switzer connected to them........

Read a little more carefully from now on. Bolting on an tuning, and building an engine are two different things. But I thought everyone on the forums knew that.
Notice the locations........ I really hate to be in this position as I'm really not trying to prove any is greater than the other, but the nutswingers make it very hard to be neutral......

Also for your information I am no nutswinger. I was just casually reading this thread while I was staying up late watching the Jazz Denver game on TNT and came across some of the misinformation in this thread and it caused me to post...thats all. I have met Martin over at AMS years back when AMS was in Arlington Heights and love his work with his monster EVO builds from the good old days, I LOVE his work on all of his latest GTR builds, LOVE AMS's 996Turbo work recently, and as a matter of fact LOVE the Champion Motorsports/ Werks War Admiral build, and LOVE EVOMS various builds that are earth shattering from the 997TT stroker builds to the latest PDK work LOVE LOVE LOVE, and LOVE how much Markski has contributed to my knowledge data base and...need I go on?

What do I need to call for when I've actually talked to them? They may build the odd engine, but that's not where their specialty, in fact I dare you to find them offering it on their site......... Go ahead and post a link for me.............
You make the same claim with any tuner that's compared to Switzer, the same line every time, what you've observed and Switzer is omgthebestesteverlolzyourtunersucks. Same story every time.

The fact that you think he should update his website with an engine shopping cart is awesome!
Hey I heard Switzer might finally be moving his shop out of his parents basement too.

And did you really 'dare' me? Really?

It was obviously in jest to lighten up the mood. If you saw what I wrote a few pages back you would see that I don't care for the marketing of either companies, or any for that matter! Great videos aren't indicative of a great product.
Switzer Sledgehammer build thread with crappy marketing vids and pics on 6speed with over 83,500 views:

I love Switzer's philosophy as well as their against the grain approach to builds. They're not after records, which for me says alot about where their priorities are. This is also not saying that them and other shops aren't capable. AMS has enough accolades to fit an encyclopedia, but I'm sure if I went there and asked for a specific kind of build, they can do it. Both shops are great. Both shops are capable of anything you request. Both shops have some incredible talent. I would be comfortable sending my car to either. I just find the race to be the first to hit certain targets, among the tuners, misleading. First doesn't always mean the best. Most views don't mean it either. It works for some, though. There's more to what the eyes can see and what the ears can hear, especially from those that can benefit from it.

You're right, no need to check your facts, it's the internet, just say whatever you want.

Look man, I've talked to them enough to know what's common around there and whats not. And engine builds ARE NOT. In fact I was helping out a tuner who was trying to become a vendor for them (mind you this is only last Nov.).
While doing so I specifically asked if they could provide support for engine builds because we didn't have anyone that could do them. I asked if we could fly Tym down to help with the build, or even ship the car up there. I was told NO. IN MY OWN EAR................
I was told that they only do engine builds in rare cases and for close friends, but it was not a service they were looking to offer. You said they built what TWO motors...... that were probably jacked up when they got them so they helped the person out, that's what I expect from a good shop like that.???
I'm not saying, or never have said they can't, I'm just saying they aren't interested in being a motor building company unlike others (AMS). But maybe comprehension isn't your best suite.
I don't know what else you want from me other than the words straight from their owns mouths, but I'm sure you know more than the guys actually working at the shop......................

Thanks for clarifying. I agree on this.

This is a very interesting thread, much like another one that I happened to stumble upon when reading the other day about how we tune our cars. This one was brought to my attention by one of my friends.
First off, Dez (heavychevy), I don't know who you are talking to (Jo?) or when the last time you did talk to him about what we were doing here, but it is obvious when it comes down to facts you have none.
I have been researching, assisting in the design of, and ordering custom ENGINE parts for the past 6 months, because if you know anything about Tym, you know is quality standards. We have an engine for a GTR being built, with everything on it to make tons of horsepower, the Switzer way with numbers from the real world. I know off hand at least two porsche engine builds we have done, on the road to this day, there is a couple underway right now, and a handful of gtr's to be done, mainly because there are people out there who think they know what they are doing when it comes to timing and boost curves in an ecu...
While Jamie does rep us quite a bit on here, he is someone that has seen the performance auto market from behind the scenes of almost every "reliable" tuning shop across the nation. He will go out of his way, spend thousands of dollars to get his car anywhere in this great nation to race it against anyone. That, my friends, is determination and loyalty. If anyone on here knows anything about how other shops do what they do, it would be a safe bet that Jamie does.
As for the videos, I edit them, and I will admit they lack HD video, fancy camera angles, transitions and dramatic lighting. Those are all cool and fancy, but we do videos like we build cars, strong and to the point. I would love to do an HD video and cut it together, but lately I have been to busy ordering parts and following up with our suppliers to make sure we can get these engines built...
Just because it is not advertised on our website with fancy photoshoots and HD video that we build engines, if you called us today, you would find out for yourself.
I urge anyone who has a speculation about something we do to CALL US IMMEDIATELY so they can get the true answer, because it is pretty obvious now that there is a lot of crap floating around on the internet today. That is pretty sad, I thought this forum would be better than that... I've been on a lot of them, seen a lot of BS going around, this one is usually pretty decent, but not lately...

Sorry if this offended you, but based on previous posts/comments (in this thread and others), what I stated was 100% accurate. Carry on...

damn , dude we have to come to personal attacks now ? dont you think it was a little uncalled for ?stuff like this will get the thread locked.

Neil, you guys aren't in the video production business. You are in the car modifying business. Your cars speak for themselves don't worry about improving your video productions. I'm more than satisfied with real world numbers.
Jhuang25, I got your PM but I don't have enough of a post count to reply (apparently you need 15, this post will make 9, lol). See you at Cal. My name is Brent. My GT-R is black and I'll be hanging out at the Fontana Nissan trailer.

So if your post above was in fact truthful (never can tell with you), I can understand how you came to your incorrect conclusion based on a single event/conversation. As I alluded to 20 posts before, over the past 10 years, Tym has RELIABLY built as many if not more engines than most any other shops on this board. Just because he does not automatically jump into the forged parts bin when someone wants to build a 900 hp GTR or 996/997 doesn't mean he's not one of the top engine builders in the industry (while partnering with a couple great machine shops - which is often overlooked).
I would have thought Neil's post would have ended this thread?
In fact at this point I would think a Mod would have locked this down to keep sponsors from being involved in a **** fight, especially when the sponsor steps in to get things straight.
This still being open after Neil's post is somewhat amazing.
