Question re "jumping on it"

Quick question -

I baby my 01 TT - very rarely even getting into boost. Tonight, with my wife driving behind me, I decided to be a jackass and really get on it on a quick short straightaway - ran it up to maybe 80 then right back down, no drama but very fun.

When I get home, my wife told me that when I took off she saw a puff of smoke and smelled something burning.

So - did I just perform an Italian tune up or is this not normal? Tires are brand new, and I did have to get on the brakes pretty aggressively to stop in time. Car pulled like a champ for the limited amount I was in it.

TIA~

Todd

Italian tune-up.

Also the puff is a mix of the engine mixing in more fuel to support the hp pull, dust from the road, and the scent is you blowing out crap out of your cats. If you don't run it hard/semi hard regularly, your cats can easily build up some crap and you probably (and healthily) cleaned them out a little.

If you don't have any power, you're wife isn't going to see anything like that, smaller hp just crawls away (slow) without a trace.

Pulls like that is what real men do who have with a passion for play, hp, Porsche Turbos and usually good looking women. Well done.

Jesus, I rarely ever run mine unless it's in boost. Drive it, otherwise why did you buy it?

LOL - I should say that I haven't owned it long, and I'm fairly conservative on the public roads. I have been into boost several times, usually quick bursts that in all honesty thrill me and scare me at the same time. I plan on learning what the car can do properly on the track, but for now I cruise around looking cool. I did do a run up to the low 100s on the tollway today on the way to a Cars and Coffee get together - a new Camaro SS was egging me on and we ran a bit before I saw a police office on the access road and slowed down while he went by the cop at at least 130. Cop didn't even turn his head, but I wasn't going to test him. I'm a realist - I know the car is WAY more capable than me at this point.

MrWhite - my wife appreciates the compliment.

Sounds like you're doing it the smart way When I first got the car, I was shocked by the power it put down. The more used to it I get, the more comfortable I feel getting on it

No - I let him go thinking he was about to meet Mr. Law. There was too much traffic coming up anyway - I didn't have any desire to get crazy with him. I will say that from appearances only that car seemed to haul some major ***.
