Short throw shifter...

I just came back from the NAIAS black tie charity preview. It was quite good, and I was able to sit in the new Murci spider and the awesome new M5! Anyways, I sat in the Turbo S they had, and it had an amazing shifter feel, much shorter throws. Can I get this in my car, and how much?

Thanks...

Have you looked at the Porsche short shifter for your car? I installed mine last month, feels great. Not quite like the SS on the 997s, but shorter throws. The 997s ssk seemed to reduce the movement side to side as well, very smmmooooooooth.

There were a bunch of factory one's for sale, do a thread search for the ssk deal. Suncoast has them as well (link on the right side of this page). Easy install (count the threads holding the cables before removing the saftey clips, you'll know when you get there).

I had the OEM SSK installed last month and it is fantastic. I have heard/read that the Porsche unit is made by and is identical to the B&M SSK, but some claim there are differences in feel. I went for the OEM because of the warranty issues. Regardless, it is a great mod. The throws are now short, notchy, and precise. I highly recommend it. I paid about $850, more than you would pay if you bought it and installed it yourself, but worth it to me to insure my transmission warranty was intact.

I would recommend the Evo shift linkage in addition to the SSK. I don't think the OE porsche kit changes the shift linkage. It is plastic and has broken on some of our hard shifting members. When you compare the linkages, plastic vs aluminum, it is quite different. Just a little extra piece of mind upgrade for a couple hundred that can prevent the dreaded limp noodle shift handle.

No diff between oem and B&M. If you have a cooperative dealer who understands this, you won't have trouble. B&M and Evo shiftlink are a great combination and will make the drive much more enjoyable.

Do it!

Yep, upgrade both. Get the B&M SSK and the EVO shift linkage. I have both and the throws are flawless.

I guess I got a deal, got a oem ssk fron Braman Porsche, 300$ and installed it myself, 30min.
But I also did it out of warranty fears, never looked back.

B&M and Evo shiftlink give the most bang for the buck out of all mods. It won't make u a better driver or go faster. But it does make you feel like you're driving a real sportscar everytime you shift it.
