Radar and Laser Detection and Blocking

What do you guys use? I've had a Bel 980 radar detector for about a decade now and it still works like a charm. At the time I bought it, it was just one level down from a Valentine 1, which I couldnt' justify the price of. Mine is software upgradeable, although a call to Bel said there's really no new technologies out there for them to upgrade me to. My own impression locally is that this is correct, seems to always work.

I guess what seperates the really good detectors is that the crappy ones beep at all sorts of radar noise, and the good ones do a better job of filtering out the false alarms. Still, all radar dectectors pick up the noise, like those auto door openers, other people's "leaking" detectors, ect.

More importantly, what are some recommendations on laser (and radar?) blocking? I know there are some systems you can install that report to do this, or at least make it difficult from them to get a laser lock on you. I've tried something like this before with a cheaper window mounted box, but I just wasn't convinced it was doing anything, I guess its hard to know. The best way on a 996tt at least to avoid laser lock is having no front plate, as there's not much of a flat surface for the cop to hit with the laser gun. Doesn't do much to help with radar, but you can decect radar much more easily from further away since its not a concentrated, focused beam, so you usually get a heads up before the corner rather than when its too late, as with laser.

I use an 8500x50. I have had it for a few years and would buy another if this one broke. I had a laser jammer on my last car that worked perfectly (if you know what I mean). I have purchased, but not yet installed a jammer for my 911. The new jammer has two sensors while the old one only had one. I'm really looking forward to getting it in there.

I'm using a Passport 9500ix, It's a GPS base radar detector. It will remembers false alarms location, and red light cameras.

I have a V1 in each of my cars. They're very expensive, but not as expensive as the tickets that I have avoided. Personally, I want to know every possible signal, so I leave the filtering off and it chirps all of the time. The GPS units sound interesting for when they give you an alert of speed cameras, but I don't want them to supress anything that I deemed to be a false alarm at one point in the past. My girlfriend used to whine that the V1 made too much noise, but, so did she, and I still have my V1s while she's gone. Take that for what it's worth.

do your research and read the posts on here:

http://www.radardetector.net/forums/

and if you decide you want to go the V1 plus Li route (which is state of the art right now). set up your sensors like this:

I use a V1 and the K40 in my car. The V1 picks up front radar a little quicker than the K40, but gets more false alarms than the K40. When both front radar warnings go off, I know to check my speed. The K40 picks up rear radar signals quicker and better than the V1, but this is to be expected given the location of the radar receivers. If I was forced to pick between the two, I would choose the V1 because of the quicker front warning.

I use both the V1 and the Passport SR7 with the laser jammer. This combo works very well for me.
With the Passport I have two laser jamer and one radar antenna in the front, one laser and one radar antenna in the rear. The V1 has one forward and one rearward. That's seven antennas around the car. Kind of funny

from radardetector.net. this week's thread:

The main reason why Li beats Blinder is because the LI is a diode jammer and the Blinder is a LED jammer. Diode jammers simply are more powerful than LED. I've tested both and the LI always comes out on top. I have a Gen7 LI on my truck and it does extremely well both in testing and in the real world.

If you still have doubts, then wait until after May 23rd. There will be two big jammer meets - one in Houston and another the Atlantic Coast Meet.
