I have some questions about the vinyl wrap some peeps are using. How thick is the vinyl and how long does it last? Will it deflect stone chips, door scuffs etc? I've never heard any marketing on wraps so I'm curious about it.

I have wrapped 4 cars of mine now. You have to get a thin material that can stretch and be heated. I have not seen any rock chips. Its really done for looks. If you get the right material, it will last 5 years.

Dan's right. It's typically a 5 or 7 year vinyl, but I doubt many people leave it on for that long.

If you do it, just make sure to get vinyl that's specifically made for automotive applications. It has very small dimples on the adhesive side that allows the paint to breathe, and also makes removal a lot easier.

I dont think vinyl protects from rock chips. The material is too thin.
