how much stuff do u have? i find the door pockets provide plenty of storage for all the stuff i have. the rest go on the floor, back seat, or the boot.

The 02 MY cupholders are totally different than the ones in the MYs before. They don't eat up that much space as the ones before. They are right between the center vents and the PCM navigation. Also the frame of the PCM/center vents/cupholder is different on 02 models.

The MY 02 interior revision was the final upgrade of the 996's standard interior. MY 02 and up are all the same.

Yaba, yaba... wtf is wrong with a cupholder and a glove box? My TT also has a tip and park distance control... a phone, PCM navigation and all that crap. I simply like the comfy features which make this car a nice daily driver. Don't think that the car lost performance due to a glove box or a cleverly installed cupholder. Face it: The TT is not a pure sportscar, but a Gran Turismo. If you can't live with that then get a GT2 or a GT3, but don't dis people for prefering the comfy features Porsche offers for the TT.

Edit: Oh... but I got sport seats. Does that save me from hell?

Who cares for cup holders and gloveboxes, the bumperettes and solid wheels would be an issue for me buy a late 2001, dont drink and drive and store all your stuff in the door pockets or leave it at home. For me in my 996 the glove box was always empty and the cup holders went unused.

You guys should read the fine print in those articles! What it actually said was if the person specified a particular year, then that was noted but if they said 996 Turbo then the first production model year was used.
2001 wasn't the first production year.

It does rob performance. Especially when you only drive with the left hand, right foot, and the right hand clutching a cup of coffee. You're right a car like that is not a real sportscar. You can't drive a sportscar and worry about spilling coffee at the same time. Might as well drive a Mercedes in that case, at least you get a full armrest.

It does take a very good driver to beat a tiptronic turbo with a non-tip TT. So why not have a cup of coffee or a coke while blowing away incompetent drivers?

Cheers!

Hey Marx,

This is posted in the spirit of friendship. I see you are from Germany. There has been a couple of street legal 996tt shootouts over here and we have never been able to get any of the top European tuners to participate. You have any connections? There are a few tuners over here that would love to see Techart, TTP, RS Tuning, Manthey, Gemballa, 9ff and Ruf participate (excuse me if I left anyone out). I'm sure it could be arranged to have us meet over there for the first round. I'm sure we could agree on some simple mutual rules.

I can drink to that

I am actually real jealous of your cupholders. You don't know how many times I spilled Starbucks all over myself between the legs

Sounds interesting. Do you have some links to previous events that I could pass on to some of them? Is there a list of US tuners that have joined in at the recent events?

Would be great to have a shootout at Nardo... Like a worldwide tuner competition. Maybe we should continue this discussion via PM...
