01 vs 02 turbo

what are the differences between the 01 and 02 turbos. why do some specify they have a late model 2001 turbo?

Thanks in advance!

Weight for one. If you read the Excellence choices, the 2001tt was the overwhelming choice of I believe all but one person.

All but one... of two persons!

The 2002 model has a lot of interior improvements (glovebox, non-shiny buttons, LED orientation lights, cup-holders and more). There should be a lot of posts about this on this forum

Main things I noticed when I was shopping for my "previously owned" car (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):

2002 advantages - glovebox and cup holders (vs. none in all 2001 models); may still have some warranty left; hollow spoke wheels

"Early" 2001 disadvantages: front bumperettes; solid spoke wheels

Can't go wrong with either year though. Better deals on 2001's too.

Sure about that? I thought the TT had the hollow spoke wheels right from the start...

You guys should read the fine print in those articles! What it actually said was if the person specified a particular year, then that was noted but if they said 996 Turbo then the first production model year was used.

You call those improvements. I guess the 996tt can be different things to different people.

The really early 2001's had solid spoke wheels and front bumperettes. However most will have the hollow spoke wheels and the smooth bumper. The 02's got glove compartments and cup holders. The shape of the air conditioning vents is slightly different to accomodate the cupholders. My wife's 03 C4S has the cupholders and I wouldn't say it's the best implementation of them I've seen. A little high in the car and prone to break and jamb in my experience. But I can't say I've ever missed either item in my '01......

No X50's in 2001. That's what makes the car so spectacular in the first place.

That's why I bought one.

Well... the glove box is an improvement for sure. Not enough room to put my stuff away in pre -02 cars.
