I have been wondering for some time as to why I couldn't just ditch all the electrical computery to the car and start again. I mean strip it out. all the wiring computers etc and start again. Just like when I build a Rally Car.
Get a good programmable ecu to run the engine and only the engine.
Fit standard old fashioned gauges. Remember those one that have an analogue signal.lol
Do away with PSM, ABS, etc etc etc, and have an old fashioned car with modern machinery.
I long for the days when cars were a whole lot simpler.#
Who else has ever thought this way.
Just a though for discussion although with time and money its doable. Not too sure about the resale value though. lol. Hey but would you want to sell it anyway.

I have just googled the 930 Turbo and you might just be right . It was the iconic 1980 Porsche I had forgotten about when I was learning to drive all those years back. However, it just isn't powerful enough.lol Its been 15 years or more since I owned a car with less than 400 horses.
It was a light hearted post about making a 996tt simple, but it still has some merits. Once the Porsche systems are removed perhaps less complicated single systems for say ABS could be put back in. Systems that dont interact with each other.
There are some on 6 that spend fortunes on 600/700 + awhp cars. But if you wanted a nice 450/500 awhp car with no complications...???? Who knows.
Its not the first time I have heard 6 members complain about the complexity of these cars there must be others who might have a similar view. Doesn't mean we are going to do it though.lol

I for one would never want another older Porsche after having one with a modern engine management system. Too many BS problems to hunt down and mess with. Count your blessings that you can turn the key, go, and forget about the headaches.
If you are a glutton for punishment just buy an old Porsche. It won't disappoint you.

It all depends how you're going to drive it. The newer cars are so much faster and more capable that the electronic gizmos can save your butt if you really push it. Out here in CO, it's very frequent to find gravel that's like marbles strewn across the road in random places with no warning and PSM can be your friend. In MA I never had this problem.
Plus most of the roads are on the side of a mountain so if you lose control, it's not like a lot of places where maybe you'll end up in a ditch. Most places you've got a decent chance of shooting off into space and landing 100' down a hill.
