whats the main difference with 996 and 997

hi, what are the main differences between the 996 and 997. I can see the front headlights are different but the rear end looks almost the same. Do the parts from the 997 fit the 996?

Any engine/gearbox differences? (turbo models)

Thanks.

They are quite different, although you wouldn't really know just by looking at them.

the core parts can be considered "same". Lots of periferal parts are different. from a mod parts perspective, I'd say the considerations/methods and there fore parts may not be the same.

LOL, well im looking at it as i can just about afford a 997 (and prefer the look) but i cant afford to tune it! So figured i will go for a 996 and with the 50k i save i will spend that on restoring it to A1 condition and make it quick

either that or i wait 3 years for the 997 to drop in price and tune that, but i dont like waiting !

The 997 has better breathing heads and cams and a better fuel system. With the same mods, you will make more power (and more power at lower boost) on a 997 than you will a 996.

Nicer interior. Better AWD system. Lots of newer, upgraded misc components.

Motronics 7.8.1, the ability to use VTG turbos (although reasonable alternatives for the 996 exist)

Electronically controlled damper rates. Less invasive PSM, improved ICs (actually X50s), second generation PCCBs. Improved spoiler hydraulics (less leaking issues.)

you say better breathing heads? are the heads the same but the 997 is ported maybe?

Cams? more lift etc? Do the cams from a 997 fit a 996?

Yes and yes. The 997 flows air like a 996 with mild head and cam work.
