Help. Ignition wont turn

I went out to my car and put the key in the ignition and it wont turn. It was a bloody hot day today and I heard the fan come on after the car was parked which was odd because I've never heard that happen on my car before. Although I have heard it on other 996 turbos.

I read the threads about the faulty ignition switch but my headlights, a/c..etc were all working fine before this happend. I read this thread and may just replace the switch but am not 100% sure this is the problem.

Does anyone has any ideas? Much appreicated.

Not to sound silly, but did you wiggle the steering wheel? Sometimes when you park, there is tension on it?

+1 - Kinda goofy, so if that's it - you don't have to admit it.

If it's the ignition switch than it's a 45 minute job with the printed DIY article in hand. A little bit of a yoga exercise if you're 6'2" but doable

It's normal for the fan to run once the engine to switched off, especially on a hot day.

Plus 1 on the steering lock.

Hey, I'll admit it. No shame in learning a new car. I had to jiggle the key while moving the wheel and it freed up.
Thanks guys.

Romaine I've been out and around. I missed you at the last Blackstone event.

Don't jiggle the key. These ignitions are finicky and can go bad. just turn the steering wheel one way or another WITHOUT jiggling the key and then just turn the key...
