Boost, diverters, ECU question
SubscribeI bought my 2003 TT in April, and my understanding was that it was stock aside from some 997 wheels. Well, I just read that stock boost is about 0.7 bar, and I know that I have seen 1.0 bar on the digital readout.
Question - is it possible that the readout is incorrect or is it more likely that the car has been flashed or some other option? Would there be any way to tell whether it has been flashed? If it is holding 1.0 bar, does that mean there is no reason to upgrade diverters?
Thanks,
Trevor

Hey Trevor...my guess would be your car is flashed. Have you checked the diverters to see if they are stock? They are on the top of the engine, a little left of center.
Well, it looks like my memory is fading more rapidly than I thought. The 1.0 bar boost recollection was from my 1400 mile drive home from FL when I bought the car in April. I tried a few WOT pulls on the way to work this morning, and I saw 0.6 - 0.7 with a single blip up to 0.8. That sounds more like stock boost.
So what does a typical "stock K16 flash" typically do? Increase boost (by how much)? Bump timing? Anything else?
Thanks.
PS - The owner I bought the car from doesn't know anything about the DVs (i.e. he must have bought the car that way). He bought from a dealer in SoCal that is no longer in business. Not looking likely that I'll ever get much more info going that route.

Forge does make nice DVs.
I've seen the boost gauge in my 996TT spike to 1.0 bar before but usually 0.7 is where it will hold. My car is bone stock with stock DVs. I'm guessing your eyes did not deceive you but your car is not flashed or you would reliably see greater than 1.0 bar boost on hard acceleration every time.
