Becker Radio Question

Quick question - just got the keys to remove the Becker CDR-220 in my 996TT. I plan on adding an IPod cable, but I don't have a CD changer. Do I just plug it into the AUX input? When I insert the keys, does the radio just pull out without disconnecting anything in the rear? I'm not real handy, so I want to make sure there's enough slack to pull the head unit forward without a bunch of wires getting disconnected.

TIA!

Todd

you can use the aux input. the head unit should slide out when you pull it with the keys. you may want to get a step by step directions on this on rennlist or renntech. this way, there are no surprises.

Can't offer any assistance in regards to the RCA inputs, as I have a "MOST" bus system on my '03.

The keys are directional, as they are not symmetrically shaped (one side will be flat / the other will be tapered). I can't remember at this point which way they get inserted. Perhaps someone else will chime in about that. I don't think you can hurt anything if you guess wrong on which way they get inserted, but obviously the head unit won't come out.

When you figure out which way they go, insert them firmly. On mine (with a CDR-23), you can feel them "seat" with a little click. Once they seat, you should be able to pull the head unit straight out by gently pulling on each of the keys. There should be no wires or connectors that remain attached to the back of the head unit. The connectors should unplug with the male ends remaining in their brackets behind the head unit.

When it comes time to reinstall the head unit, as I recall you need to leave the keys in place, slide the head unit back in until it is firmly seated, and while holding the head unit in place, pull out each key. Not sure if it's just my head unit, but I can't get it back in without the keys in place.
