interior cf trim parts

Anyone know where to buy the carbon fiber dash defroster trim? I saw a sponsor here sold one but it is the entire trim, I just need the strips like the OEM ones. The dealer sells the entire trim not just the cf part of the trim. Its for an 01 turbo and of course mine warped and came off.

The only way to get it is to buy a new entire piece which will warp again.

Entire trim or just the cf part? The entire trim from the dealer is ~$860 per side. If I can get just the cf part i can glue it in place and shouldn't warp for a while.

Carbon fiber defroster trim

$800+ per side is way too much. Suncoast Porsche sells each side for about $440 last time i checked, still expensive but much less than the $800 you were quoted from the dealer. The same piece in leather without the CF cost about $340 each side. The plastic version is less than $100 each. Rottec and MA-Carbon both sell full CF defroster trims so you can check out those and see if you'd like that option. No one sells just the CF piece that comes off. Most seem to believe that your just asking for trouble since the new CF would either not adhere again very well or warp. The sad thing is the OEM CF doesn't appear to be ready for real world use. I have the full CF package my defroster trim is warped, the side vents were starting to warp (but I was able to fix it with heat+gorilla glue), steering wheel has a crack, as does the horseshoe piece. This problem seems to be very wide spread but many were replaced under warrenty. I'm on the fence on redoing the CF package or going with something different.

In my personal experience, there are several steps one can take to prevent/slow down the warping, yellowing, and cracking associated with both factory and after market CF interior pieces.

It would seem that the biggest enemies of CF pieces are direct sunlight and temperature. Keep them cool and away from sunlight and they will last a long time. Park in shaded and cool areas. If that's not possible, use window shades, tint your windows and roll them down just a crack to lower interior temperature. The CF pieces should also be waxed/polished like any painted surface periodically. If I recall correctly, there is a detailed and informative post about this topic in the Detailing section of this site.

Have dealt with CF pieces for almost a decade now (the stick-on Tora Sport pieces in the Supra Turbo, the Asian made pieces for the M3s to now the Porsche OEM CF trim) using the above methods with good success.

As for where to get them, besides MACarbon, Rottec, Suncoast others have mentioned, you might also look into DB Carbon (no personal affiliation, but have heard it mentioned a few times in the past).

When you're talking about the "trim per side", does this also include the air vent trim? MY defrost CF has warped off of the driver's and is starting to warp on the passenger's side. Just wondering what's an easy fix. It doesn't really bother me since I can't really see it, but knowing it's there gets annoying.

Personally, I'd prefer the leather anyways so I'm thinking of replacing the CF with leather trim, and if it's cheaper, then bonus. And maybe I can find the leather trim pieces used...

Try DB carbon. A friend ordered some stuff from them and it's still holding up well. www.db-carbon-interior.com
