Need advice on 996tt purchase
. First, get your own PPI... DO NOT RELY ON THE CPO.
Second, there are PUBLISHED standards on the paint that a CPO shall allow. If a lay person can detect it, I am going to opine it should not meet CPO standards. (You have no idea what was damaged on this car..you SEE some stuff on the fender..the ISSUE is what you cannot see.)
The tires must be Porsche OE tires, matching, with over 50% of tread. Pads must be over 50%.
Ask them to fax you the CPO checklist (they are required to give this to the new owner...) they can refuse you as a shopper.
A dealer will value the X50 much higher than the market at general. They are looking to sell to a buyer that values stock, cpo and X50.. I think they'll be firm to an extent.

Since I have owned a turbo for 2 weeks, that probably makes me an expert... right?
I never looked at that car, but was interested in it. I didn't realize it was an X-50 car. They originally listed the car at $54k and I've seen the price lowered twice.
I'd be frothing at the mouth at less than $50k for an X-50, CPO car. Having said that, you would be advised to have an independent PPI. The paint on the rear bumper can be repaired easily and inexpensively.
I'd say the car is right on the money at $49 - 50K. You may be able to get Momentum to come down another $1500 max if you build good rapport with the dealership. They will certainly find a buyer at that number, they know it, and you should know it too!.
If you want the car, check it out and pull the trigger.
Because if I was still in the market, I'd be in Houston today working out the deal.

Funny...
My impression of an 01 vs. and 03 is the exact opposite. I think the materials used in my 01 996TT seem to be of a higher quality than newer 02 and 03 996TT's that i've road in. Seems to me that manufacturers find cheaper ways of doing things as time goes on.
Maybe it's because mine has full carbon and full leather where the other cars did not. Also, my 01 is super tight but it's also a nice weather only non-track garage queen.
Wouldn't you say that maybe the reason that your 03 is nicer than that 01 is that is a less driven car mileage and condition wise?

Yea... You might have a point there... My 03 is a garage queen... Like I pointed out.. I really don't have any evidence to back my opinion.. Just my experience. In fact, my Audi TT 3.2 quatro S-line has less rattles and quirks then my 01 TT had..
Test drove the car today. Drives amazing! Power is incredible. Check engine light did come during the drive! The car definitely has some cosmetic flaws. Might bug me a little. The dealer was very rude. Didn't seem interest in helping. Took 45 minutes to get a salesman who then basically let me drive it but offered nothing in the way of information! Didn't even ask for my contact info! Ha! Must have thought I was some punk kid (but I am 33). Guess I will sleep on it. I really wish it was in better condition though. Keep reminding myself it is 7 years old.
Hey there, am350
I purchased my 2001 996tt from there, Sep of last year. All I can say is, DONT PURCHASE FROM MOMENTUM.
I purchased the ezcare warranty. EZ Care covered the transmission rebuild, 3 months after I purchased it. EZ CARE would not fix the CV boot that leaked. They said it was Momentum's problem. Momentum told me to go pound sand.
It was only $500 to fix.
The brake rotors were worn WAY OUT OF SPEC, Momentum told me it was no problem, they WOULD NOT fix it. I found new rotors for only $900.
With the EZ Care warranty, it only cost me $5,000 to fix the transmission.
Now, the rear wing has stopped going up and down. It's only $3000 to fix. EZ Care AND Momentum will NOT cover it.
So, I did the only thing there was to do. Rebuild the entire car.
9 months later, and $41,000 in labor, parts, and tuning, and I have a practically brand new 2001 996tt that will outperform a Bugatti Veryon!
That is AFTER the $45,000 I spent on the car, EZ Care warranty, and TT&L.
At this point in time, I have $86,000 invested in a $38,000 dollar car. Within one year after purchasing it.
Take any car you are interested in to the VERY BEST Porsche guy in Houston, Akram Inshanally at MotorWerks. He will give you a proper pre-purchase inspection (PPI) and TAKE CARE OF YOU.
I have already submitted my complaints to the BBB as well as PNA. EZ Care is also investigating their practices and may very well lose their eligibility to sell EZ Care warranty.
Good luck to you in your search for your dream car.
Sincerely,

Ouch! That is quite scary frankster. Thanks for sharing you horror story. The salesman was very rude. And when I asked about cost of brake replacement his response was "Its a Porsche. The brakes are bulletproof" Yeah right. I think I will hold off on this one. The passenger head lamp needs replaced and I just realized they are 2400 each.
Hello everyone, I am looking for my first P-car. I would love anyones opinion of the following:
http://www.momentumporsche.com/certi...be040c0232.htm
It is cpo. It does have a few cosmetic flaws including some paintwork in the back fender the dealer says is from scratches. Clean car fax. It is x50 which had me excited! 50k for 03 tt with 47k miles.
I would love some opinions. Btw sorry for double post, didn't see turbo forum

Beyond that, 50k is a bit high for a car with paint work or any weird stories, one can find a clean x50 for that money if they hang tight a little while. Winter is usually the 'best' time to shop for a deal.
While I don't have to, I daily drive my car and love it. The turbo has pretty much ruined me from owning any other performance oriented car.
I will repeat the good advice you have been given several times, already:
Have an independent PPI done on ANY car you purchase.
Period.
The car I purchased had 58,000 mi. Unmolested, bone stock, all work done at dealerships, its entire life. Two owners, both surgeons, the passenger seat even had the "airbag stop" in it, so it could have a child seat in it.
How bad could it be, right?
Once we had the motor out, we could see all the work that had never been done to it. Major service is every 20,000 miles. Motor comes out to have that work done to it. The motor had never been out of this car, before.
Momentum sales person said to me it had:
New tires all around
60,000 mile service done (a $5,000 service)
CPO
Full Records
The actually had:
Tires worn to the indicator mark on inside of front tires (out of alignment)
Tires worn to the indicator mark on inside of rear tires (worn out rear shocks)
Motor was never taken out to complete the 60,000 mile service
CPO does not exist for cars this old. EZ Care aftermarket warranty is the actual coverage. Paid $3,000 for it.
Records only existed for Momentum. They would not help me acquire records from previous dealership. Besides, what do records mean when the dealership itself LIES about the work done to the car?
New Rules:
1. Decide where you will have the vehicle serviced BEFORE you even purchase it.
2. Use the network of the local owner's club to find your car. Usually the best quality cars are owned by members.
3. Expect to have 30% of your budget dedicated to service and repair of your new deam car.
Good Luck.

No affiliation to seller but saw this locally - no idea of condition but the mods look nice.

Nothing good (for you) can come from that transaction...
