Prepping car for concours and I found......

The left rear wheel had tons of cosmoline inside it.

I thought it was just dirt but when I removed the wheel to get it really clean, it was cosmoline!!

I guess they spray it after the wheels are on the car.

Does not seem like they were too careful with the application.

Anyhow I got it off with some 3m adhesive remover.

Some nasty **** (I think paraffin wax based) they put on the underside (mainly engine section) of cars to prevent corrosion on the way across 'the pond' from the salty sea water...

John,
The brown stuff that looks like oil or dirt is cosmoline.

My solution....I sold my wheels.

J,
There are several products that are made specifically for it. Zymol Strik is one of them. I have talked to several people and they have said it takes quite a bit of effort and patience to get it off. Figure on a lot of patience and an equal amount of time with a toothbrush.

Sung to appropriate tune........We're in the Army now!!
