Raced a Ferrari Today

Hate to say it, but I met my first walking, talking Ferrari-driver cliche today. It was 65F in St. Louis today, so I went for a wee drive. Heading up the road, I hear a revving engine behind, then beside, me. I look over, and there's an old Ferrari 328.

Anyway, he looks over at me, and yells (I kid you not) "Why'd you buy that German piece of ****?". Somewhat dumbfounded, I just burst out laughing, and leat him drive off.

That's when the light changed to red.

I wound up next to him, and he's still laughing, so I suggested he show me what all the fuss was about. The light went green, and we eased off from the light (I'm not abusing the clutch to show this putz a lesson).

Anyway, at about 15 mph, he gets on it, and I follow. Well, my little C4S just destroyed him. By the top of 3rd, I was way in front of him, so I let off and coasted down to let him catch up to me. The last I saw of him, he did a snotty little ricer flyby, then took the next exit.

I love Ferraris as much as the next guy, but his 15-year old 328 just doesn't have the nuts for a drag race. It must have been new, or he'd already have learnt that from a dozen Mustangs/Camaros/Corvettes/Subaros...

Made my day though. Dick.

Only when they bring it on themselves. But yes, I savored the moment.

what an a-hole. I have not had any bad experience with ferrari owners. Most have been very kind and nice towards the P-car. But I guess this guy deserved it. I am surprised he gave you **** in a 328 and thought he could beat you.

Yeah, me too. I figured it must have been new, and he was still feeling all 'king of the road'.

I'm sure Ferrari drivers are just as diverse a bunch as any other marque, but I just had to share this one experience.

Only thing better then shattering ego's, is doing so in a 4-door family Sedan . I guess the only step up from there is in a Wagon, since most see it as a "Soccer-Mom" thing, but boooy are they gonna be wrong when an Avant RS4 hits the streets one of these days, piloted by the mighty Ron.

TTRon

daamn I need to go to sleep, I'm still just really excited about the whole RS4 shteez tomorrow.

I 'm a long time Audi fan and occas owner going back to my first one - the almighty 1986 Audi 5000CS Turbo Quattro sedan which was light years technically ahead of anything back then ...but ... I have to say that on Bay Area freeways around the Peninsula - rice rockets , Vettes,M3s ,AMGs leave me alone but it's always the Audi A4s that buzz me and do the fly-bys . Can you explain why ? Even my wife noticed to the point of asking why those little Audis are always trying to race us .

I have no idea - a Stage 3 S4 is a match for a 996tt, but no A4 is - I actually had a stock (yes, stock) A4 try to race me once with an RS4 badge on it. I dunno, some people are weird I guess

What a jerk, he must not have seen that classic Ferrari vs. Supra moment in the Fast and the Furious. Pretty classic if someone can link it. Maybe if it was a 360 or better he could talk smack, but a 328? I'm still on the lookout for a 360 with a tubi in my neighborhood that bob and weaved to catch me and then ran a red light to prove something. I don't know what because all I was doing was driving along normal and he decided to show me what he has. Next time I'll show him what I have and boy will he be surprised. Nothing worse than someone who thinks who they are.

Cool

Maybe he let you win.

If it was a 328GTS it has 260 hp and weighs 3170.
That's 5.9 to 60 and a 13.8 1/4

1) For the same reason men climb mountains... because it's there
2) The guy was being a tool.
3) Roads were empty, and it was a safe environment.
4) I used to watch Magnum PI when I was a kid (I know, he drove a 308).

****er. Around this board, I seriously feel as though the C4S is a momentum car. I didn't buy it to drag race, as it's about the worst drag car in the world, but sometimes, you just have to fly the flag.
