My custom GT2/Ruf inspired front bumper
My custom GT2/Ruf inspired front bumper
UPDATE: Precision Porsche has agreed make GT2 bumpers with the middle part removed from the side intakes on a special order basis. Please contact Precision Porsche directly for more information
Also, MaShaw, Revo and Duraflex now offer GT2 radiator ducts. See post #35 for MaShaw's ducts
I felt the stock 996tt bumper with the C4s lip looked a little plain compared with my Ruf Carbon rear spoiler and Euro rear bumper. I really like the GT2 but my car's not a GT2 and the TechArt is a little too extreme for my taste. So I decided to make my own bumper.
I started with a MaShaw carbon fiber GT2 front bumper. Then I trimmed the blades on the side intakes:

After I filled the voids I test fitted and ran into some issues with cooling. First with the center radiator. The 996tt gets fresh air from the front and exits hot air from the bottom. The GT2 bumper blocks the exit bottom duct. So rather than tilting the radiator and getting the GT2 intake and exit ducts, I trimmed the bumper to allow for the use of the 996tt bottom exit duct:

Next were the side radiators. This is what happens when you use the 996tt radiator ducts with a GT2 bumper:

Notice the hole in the upper right corner and the gap along the bottom. You'd be losing lots of cooling air thru these gaps. Ideally you'd want to use GT2 ducts but these are now only available thru special order from Porsche in Germany for $500 each. So I made my own:

Now where does this hot air go? With the 996tt, some air exits thru the fender liner but most exits thru the bottom of the bumper. The GT2 bumper blocks the bottom exits and exits air thru larger openings in the liners. So I trimmed my liners:
Stock 996tt liner:

modified 996tt liner ala GT2:

996tt liner against GT2 bumper:

Now is a good time to clean your radiators:

After paint, I made my grill screens and installed the bumper. Here's the finished product:

Is there enough interest to convince any of the aftermarket bumper manufactures to make this bumper? Also since GT2 radiator ducts are harder to get, I think there's a market for bumper manufactorers to make replica GT2 ducts. What do you guys think?

I think you nailed it man. I always felt there was something wrong with the GT2 bumper but I couldn't put my finger on it. You fixed it.
