When I posted it here I knew my price was real high, at the time I didn't really want to sell the car. When I took it to my dealer we priced it at what I thought was still alittle high for this time of year. I really didn't think it was going to sell so quick , giving me time to decide to keep it.
When he told me it sold I felt like somone punched me in the gut.

Quote: That being said here is my short list.
  • Exige
  • E550
  • M3
  • M5
  • 997 s or turbo
  • ZO6 but my wife said they are too NJ
An eclectic assortment

Have you seen the current prices on the 997 turbo? You could probably find an '07 with 50k miles in the high $60s, certainly low $70s.

Case in point:

The only car on that specific list that I think is a step up from your old car is the 997TT. Good luck with your decision.

I decided on a 09' or 10' M3, I know this is a step down from X50 but I average only keeping a car about 18 months so this will tie me over till the price of the 997tt come down a little.

Could you swing the R8? Impressive car. My buddy claims he has women leave their phone numbers under the windshield wiper blade, bonus.

Interesting. I am searching for my next car and thus have test driven a number of different cars, a few being a GTR, 996TT, Cayman S, 997 S, Nobel M12. PaulieWalnuts, "is it greener"? I say no. First let me say that the GTR is a landmark car, more of a "yardstick" as Jeremy/Top Gear stated than simply another car. But, what Jeremy leaves out is that the car removes most of the primal components that make driving fun (gear changes, road feeal, etc). A GTR felt more like a roller coaster than car, on rails and definative in where it was going. As amazing as the car was, and it was amazing as I had the car for about an hour and did everything from 0-100's and quick turns, it was less exciting/fun than a 996TT (non-mod, non X50). Just my .02.

Interesting. I actually find it more exciting and fun to drive than a stock or even slightly modded 996TT (other than the fact that is has a dual-clutch transmission like a 997.2 PDK or DCT M3). The road feel is excellent and the handling is literally the best I've ever felt in a roadcar. My best friend, who owns a 1000 hp 996TT, drove mine the other day and loved it. He's now thinking about getting one for himself.

But, if someone is looking for more of a purist's car (i.e., 6-MT), yet still wants to step up from a 996TT, I think a 997.1TT 6-MT would fit the bill nicely.

Nice choice. I think you're really going miss the torque of a Porsche turbo, but if it's only for 18 months, you'll be okay.

A stock R35 GTR handles better than a well-modified 996 GT2 or C6 Z06?

That is a strong endorsement, given the company. Good info, thanks for sharing your impressions.
