Yes they are crazy and will get crazier every year. Although yours seem especially crazy. I just got my renewal for the same year and model and it was $717.00. User fees (like DMV) are being raised to take care of out of control spending. The voters just required that user fee require a 2/3 public voted but specifically exempted DMV fees.

In Maryland you have to pay 6% tax on the purchase price of the vehicle once when transfering title and getting new tags as the buyer and along with this you must provide MD State safely inspection certificate only once at the same time. Then you get your tags and the new MD title is mailed to you.

After that you pay nothing and never need to get it inspected again. You just do Emissions every year and renew your registration and get new stickers every 2 years, doesn't matter what kind of car you have it's $150 for new registration card and plate sticker...

Washington State charges yearly, with emissions inspection required every other year (for cars > 5 year old I think). I paid $300 this year for registering my car.

Oregon is different, charging $77 for regular vehicles for two or four years - four years for a newly purchased car or a new state resident and two years for renewing.

Ya, I think I paid $33 for normal plates. 6.75 percent sales tax upfront hurts, although not nearly as bad as other states sales tax, but there is no annual value tax like some states have.

Ohio is kike this too, but not all states are. Some charge a annual property tax in a way. Complete wealth, not income, taxation crap.

No you're not confused. We pay from 8%-9.5% sales tax depending on the county and then get to pay another annual registration fee of about 1% of value for the rest of our lives. Isn't the car jihadist republic of California wonderful.

My 2002 TT due in Feb 2011 is $354.00. The first year of your ownership may include the sales tax plus the license fee. Check with AAA in California, no lines.

Ok...finally done with the DMV.....what happened was when I went to AAA to register the purchase of the used car...they put it in the system as a NEW car......will never go to the DMV for new regisitration again......

The VLF starts as a percentage of the purchase price of the car, and then the value of the car is depreciated on a DMV schedule over the subsequent 11 years of ownership until it's finally like $60 a year or something. Keep your Turbo a long time for the "best" registration deal.
