Touch Up Paint - How do I figure my color?

I bought a used 2004 996tt in "black" and it has a key scratch on it (and a small scratch on the rear plastic bumper). I want to get some touch up paint to try and clean it up or fix it - I know this seems odd since the car is "black" - but any way that I can easily find what kind of black as it seems there are several shades. Advice? Thoughts? Also, where is the best place to get this stuff and the best way to fix it?

thanks

-michael

M71 or L71... but pop your hood and look for the color code sticker underneath. It'll list all your options.

What version of black do you have? Basalt black? Regular black? Find the paint code under the front hood.

They're both standard black paint (one earlier than the other). Basalt black is a different code. But if you look under your hood you'll see all the options listed there including the paint code.

So it is LC9Z which from a previous post means basalt black - thanks.
Any suggestions on the best way to fix key scratches?
Also, any way to find out what all of those option codes mean?

thanks again!

You can email suncoast with VIN or check out Streathers 996
Companion or do a search for option codes.

If you need to check the paint color or code, please contact me with your VIN number. We offer the normal touch-up paint on our site, if you're looking for more than the normal tube, I have a site I can recommend. Let me know, thanks.

Once you figure out the paint code, I have used DrColorchip in the past and been very happy with the results. Best with chips. Not as good with long deep scratches.
