Hey Alex,
What is Ninja Boy's mods? I noticed that the last shift sounded a little strange.

He has a kit from Protomotive:

"I changed my turbos to the A3076s. Todd K recommended them to me. It is absolutely awesome. 1.4 is a bit too much on pump gas but i was just trying my luck for once up to that limit. Its back on 1.1 now until i get some MS 109 and then i will boost it up to probably 1.6...will see how it goes then...Thanks for ur comment guys"

We, the tip guys should search for some device to measure the temp in our gearboxes, I was reading somewhere that the temp is killing the trans.

Sorry to hear about your box, but if you are into modding it is a blessing in disguise.

As I also have been posting for advice about slippage in 3rd on my 996tt Tip. I did all that was advised. Fluid and filter change but it still slips from 3rd to 4th up changes. That is why I have stopped modding. I am now saving for the MKB upgrade.
I'm not running the same power as a lot on here but its still enough to cause Tip problems.
My car is a K16 car, with a Revo Technic stage 2 tune dyno'd for 1 bar(agressive) on 99/100 fuel. I have a 100 Cell miltek motor sport exhaust par motor sport DV's and a k&N filter.
On the dyno the car was 550 ft lbs torque before the exhaust/cats and DV's so I dont know what it is now. So once the Tip is modded its back to the power mods.
I have changed my WOT gear change for 3rd to 4th by backing off the power a little just as I hit the button to change up. It does stop the slip, but its inevitable, its going to break sooner or later. I also fogett to back off the power as well at times. Ho Hum...

Sunny, I dont want to tell you the obvious, but there is a shot in the dark that this is something to look at. Have you ever checked your transmission mount? Mine felt like a slip or bang under load, and it was just a cracked mount. Now it's smooth as glass.

Just a thought

Hi thanks for the though, but it is truly slipping. The engine over revs by about 500 rpm and the car doesn't go any quicker , then there is a clunk as the gears engage and the car shoots forward. Its just like a normal slipping clutch except is bites on its own with s clunk and sudden surge of power.
frank

ps its only in 3rd

maybe its in the tune...what tune do you have 007?

maybe one of evo guys will post...

007, was there any warning at all to the problems? Some say you can tell the car is slipping and just turn the boost to where it doesn't slip...but it seems in your case and a few others there was instant blow up without warning...any comments are appreciated...Thanks!

I am pretty sure anyone with a tip doing turbo mods realizes they will have to upgrade the tranny once the stock one blows...$6k isn't crazy when compared to a triple carbon 6-speed flywheel clutch etc...
I had a very little indication that my trans was going to start slipping. However, this was not through me "feeling" it but through my V-box. I would log my 60-130 times and notice that was getting progressively worse times. Last summer I was getting 7.1 seconds 60-130 and noticed even at that time that the shift was taking much longer from 3rd to 4th then any other subsequent gears. The last long I had was a 8.0 60-130 and once again the was mostly due to the shift. Blackhorse and I had discussed this issue in March of this year. Needless to say, I was not happy with my 60-130mph times but knew that the power was there since I ran a 10.9@127 and had best traps of 130mph on street tires with full weight. I am excited to see what can be done since I would often get 1.6 60’ times. I honestly feel that if there was a tip that could handle power like the 6speeds it would lend for better acceleration times at the drag strip since tips are easy to launch and keep boost between shifts.

I am quite sure that my 3rd gear clutch packs are fried and probably need to have them swapped out since from what I know the 3rd gear clutch packs are smaller then 1st and 2nd. I am very interested to see if someone can machine the trans to fit more clutch packs.

I want to beef up my unit since I have to spend the money anyway. Even if I don’t increase the power output of my car at least it will handle the power better then the OEM unit.

I will keep you guys updated with what I decide to do.
