Incorrect fuel gauge when using injectors

Guys,

Is there any solution to this? From what I understand that until the needle reaches half way point, it is a manual reading from the tank. However after that the computer determines the position of the needle based on driving.
However as we know, with injectors, the computer believes that you are actually getting more mpg, when in reality you are getting less.
Effectively you can run out of fuel when the gauge is showing a quarter of a tank left.

Other than filling it up regularly, is there any solution to know precisely the fuel or recalibrate the gauge?

Ken

Hi Ken,
I am aware of the problem you mention. I have run injectors for 18 months now and have never run out of gas. I have run the car down into the warning light zone several times also. I know mileage is inaccurate on display but difference in range probably not significant enough to run out of gas in most instances, in my experiance.
I may have heard that EPL had done something to correct the error, but no one else I know of.

BTW, any more high speed runs for you?

Actually my car had an issue at just under 1/4 tank marker. I suppose I had been driving it hard

I done some testing on 14th October after getting the car back. I ran at Bruntingthorpe which is 4 mile track with 2 mile straight. I only ran at 1.3 bar because when I tried at 1.5 bar it popped the hose of the BOV (these are now clipped on securely). At least it was at the end of the run.

Attached are the graphs from that run.

In summary the car did (1.3bar)

Speed v Time
0-60 3.2
0-100 6.6
0-150 13.7 ( with two persons in the car we did 14 sec dead as well)
0-160 15.8
0-170 18.4
0-180 21.8
0-186 24.0
0-200 30.8 (we did have a 29.8 but no sd card but have photo).

I saw 207mph on the dash at 1.3bar, so just around 200 on gps.

In terms of speed v distance (1.3bar)
1/4 mile 135mph
1/2 mile 165mph
3/4 mile 182mph
1 mile 192mph
1.19miles 200mph

AFRs
Under full load at 200 they were spot on 11.45 so there is room to squeeze more out of her.

IATs
Ambient was around 12c. I ran 4 continuous circuits (16 miles) under pretty much full load down the straight and half load down the back area. IAT started at 22 and rose at 200mph to 48-51 on most of the runs, but running to just 186 they stayed around low 40s.

I could have pushed harder but it was a shake down test since I done the gps 200 (digital dash 207) in 1.2miles.

I am running at Vmax in a few weeks at the same place.

All being well I think the car can run (@ 1.5bar) probably 21-22 sec 0-300kph and probably close to 200 in the mile.

Great info Ken!!

Did you totally run out of gas at 1/4 tank?!!

Those are great numbers especially at that boost level. Are you going to hazzard 1.5 bar at Vmax?

I went 198.7 and 197.3 at the TX Mile. It was somewhat disappointing but enlight of conditions my best run yet. My IATs started at ~100 F only went up to about ~ 120F or so. This was on my Brockway. I did not datalog the passes so it is not exact. Running 1.5-1.6 bar on MS-109.

Vid in case you didnt see earlier:

I have heard of this problem and I think it is due to the computer actually calculating the remaining fuel. I actually ran out of fuel once which a very costly mistake thus I never let my take get below 1/4.

Next question,
once you fit a 5 bar FPR even thought standard injectors is this going to happen as well. The computer will not know the fuel pressure has been raised.??
