I asked Asgar about this and he said that every part of the kit had to be used and nothing could be substituted. Oh well. Maybe you should get the kit msindi, then you could sell me all your "old" mods.

I also inquired and they will not do the conversion unless you use all of their parts. Also, they stated that I was responsible for any charges that the participating dealer charged for the use of their shop and also the travel costs of the tech.

I was quoted less than listed above for the x50 to 550 conversion but I don't have the email to recall how much exactly.

I see a lot of people on here that take some of this and some of that and glue them all together and wait and see how good it works and how long it stays together. Believe me I'm one of these people, but I have learned that you get what you pay for in most cases, and all the pieces dont always add up to the whole.

Ruf has spent more on R&D than most of the tuners being discussed. Yes he is a manufacturer, but doesn't want to sell everything but an exhaust and find out that the system did not function properly and give the results he promised. I have bought parts for my porsches of the years and have seem dyno results go down for an exhaust that was supposed to give me an addt'l 20 hp.

Also everyone is talking about these 700 hp porsches, but I'm curious what you are doing to cylinder heads and rods & connectors? Also tranni will have problems with this type of hp w/out proper oil cooling. I hope they all work out for the long run, but when you see these high prices, remember they are doing a lot of internal work that the German tuners seem to think is vital for longevity and true hp.

RufTurbo,

I agree with your statements. Except ONLY the 590hp package has internals changed.

The 520/550 R Turbo packages are pure bolt on.

To answer your question, this 700hp Porsche is going to have some of the issues you brought up addressed shortly.

In the interim, I will settle for only 625-650hp for longevity purposes. I really believe that my car is engineered as well as the Ruf car. My car has actually had far less problems than a CTR2 that I know of here in California.

Hamann,

But I have driven in Europe with most tuners and most tuners in the US. "equal hp cars seem faster in Europe, but I was impressed with one US tuner a long time ago in Florida that went by the name of Protomotive? Is this the same guy? That car was a rocket. One of the few that scared the **** out of me. It was an older sequential 800+hp. Dont know if it was very reliable, but it was fast. I'll have to meet up with you sometime and see your car.

Hamann,

I also just realized you are in Malibu. Do you know how to get a hold of the guy with the blue Ruf? I may be buying a new one from Alois and I have also been working on importing a Pagani. It seems to be real expensive because I'd have to spend a lot @ DOT/EPA. I want to find out if he got his by show/display and if he can really use the car, and also want to know how it compares to the RUF 590.

Thanks!

Austin

Hey Austin,

I got your PM and I will give you a call tomorrow to discuss further.

Yes, you are referring to the same Protomotive who did my car. The shop in Florida is called Proto Tech, who is an affiliate partner of Protomotive here in SoCal. Todd Knighton does all the programming and most of the engineering of these systems.

And yes, these cars will scare the **** out of you. I still get scared at full throttle!

BTW, I realized that you and I are in a very similar line of business! What a coincidence.
