996Turbo vs 997Turbo

I would like to get some input of the advantage of moving up from my 996 Turbo to a 997 Turbo. My Turbo is a 2001 seal grey coupe with good options(msrp was $128,000+). It is like new with 5,180 miles and is stock with the exception of EPL flash and H&R Springs. It is a 3rd vehicle that I drive on weekends. I'm familiar with the cosmetic and mechanical differences and refinements between the two cars but find it hard to justify paying the difference for a weekend driver. I assume my car would bring a max of about $50,000 and a 997TT would be $75,000-80,000+. I really like my car and would appreciate your input. Thanks.

For a little over 500 miles a year, you should just rent one when you want to drive one.

i'd have to agree with others in the thread. whats the point on spending that money if you aren't really driving the car.

do you want it just to have it sitting in the garage depreciating?
save your money, seems your happy with your current turbo, if not ask one of the vendors, i mean moderators, for some options to change the setup

What would be your response if I drove the car more? I just retired and will have more free time. It still seems like a lot of $$difference.

It's a huge amount of cost difference. If you drove the car regularly and like the 997 more, AND can pretty painlessly absorb the cost, you should go for it. I don't think you'd find a 997TT in the same condition as your current car for the prices you listed. If I were you though, I'd keep the 996.

When I went to purchase a tt two years ago I looked at both 996 and 997tt.
I remember being at the dealership with my wife looking at a 996 and 997tt side by side. The 997 was 50k more than the 996 at that time. Really for me I just could not justify the extra 50k and went with the 996. I am still very happy with the choice.

What exactly is driving it "more?" 1000 miles a year? 2000? 5000? Unless the answer is at least a few thousand, stick with your current car.

My Turbo has gotten almost 20k miles on it in the last year alone.....

Either one looks good in the garage... If it's worth it to you to spend another $40K for a nicer view, then I say - go for it!

If you don't plan on driving it a lot more there are other cars out there that look even better in the garage.
